Hallo!
I am about to pull the trigger on the new 2017 guide rsc (with S4 caliper), until i saw this article.
I like the brake to have minimal lever throw, so that with a shallow push it engages! (in the article, although it is the rsc model with bite point adjust, it seems that the brake has much lever throw)
How is it? Can it be adjusted so the lever engages almost with just a pull of 1cm (0.4in)?
Cheers!
I've got Guide RS (without bite point adjust) and my brakes start to bite quite early in their travel. They certainly don't get anywhere near the bars before biting. My mates Shimano SLX brakes get far closer to the bar before biting in comparison. I've found the guides to be faultless so far. Had them over a year now - on my 3rd set of pads and done one bleed myself. Still work faultlessly.
You could add more fluid to the system...this will move the pistons closer to the rotor so potentially more brake rub but less throw.
I've just replaced my pads and my lever throw is now very short as the new pads are obviously thicker. I need to remove some fluid as my rear rotor doesn't turn - but the lack of throw is excellent and stopping power is fantastic.
Most important is to have minimal to little lever throw, without minimizing the pad-rotor clearance.
Maybe, if one bleeds the brakes with the bite point adjuster in the middle, can give the desired result (minimal lever throw with the standard pad-rotor clearance)?
Get them bought you will not be disappointed
Quite simply, I don't believe the article:
are you aye? Reach all the way out smells of pish to meI’m running both the contact point and the reach all the way out
My Guide Ultimates with reach and contact point adjustment all the way out are too far away for me to reach the lever!
What about the lever throw Rick Draper?
Seriously man, both here and RideMonkey everyone is telling you to buy them. How many more times do you need to hear it?
Seriously, i want serious answers 🙂
Lever throw can be a little to a lot depending on where I set the adjustment dial!

Which you've had many times over, that's why folk are starting to take the piss.
Yes the lever can be set where you want
Yes the throw can be adjusted so that they bite early
Yes they are powerful
Yes the modulation is good
Yes they are worth the money
It's like you're actively looking for reasons not to buy them
You're trying too hard to be legendary! 😈
If other mates want to share their experience/opinion, i would be more than welcome 🙂
there are threads here: http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/saint-vs-guide-rsc and here: http://ridemonkey.bikemag.com/threads/zee-vs-guide-rsc.277503/ full of the information you're asking for
Trying too hard... ok, we got that!
