Hi guys
Just ordered a canyon spectral and it comes with
SRAM guide R brakes 200mm/180mm rotors
Are they any good, and easily serviceable , I currently use xt m8000 and SLX m675 brakes which I've always felt worked well and my mate says are a doddle to rebleed,
Are they comparable to the reliability of the shimano.
I'd prefer to sell on as new before testing them depending on opinion,
Secondly the bike comes with roam 30 wheels, they seem quite narrow 21mm internal but have bladed spokes, so are they rigid and hard wearing, my wheels always seem to take a beating.
Thanks in advance
I ride mainly West Yorkshire moorland/ peaks , woodland, sandstone grit, etc 600-1000m climbs and descends a ride etc.
Can't speak about the brakes - I was meant to get Guide R's, but ended up with DB5s(!)
The wheels are OK - but the bearings are pants and the spokes worked loose in mine pretty quick. The spoke thing was probably an individual build issue, but I've never really liked bladed spokes as I feel they work loose easier.
Rims stayed true no problem.
As a wheelset, I think they are pretty good for what they are, but keep an eye on those spokes and replace the stock bearings with decent ones ASAP and you'll be better off.

I recently asked about the brakes . Seemed a generally positive response . I'm trying mine tomorrow
Just taken delivery of the same bike. I already use Guide RS's and they're way better than SLX (IMO). The R's are pretty much the same without lever adjust, which I never use anyway.
SRAM wheels are meant to be OK, I'll look for replacement bearings as per dannyh's advice.
Thanks for the quick responses, not getting shipped till 1st-5th August, had initially thought of buying some hope enduro wheels but think I'll give the wheels a chance, I have some bladed Mavics and they are the only wheels I haven't managed to dent, buckle, bend or flat spot, so was hoping they,d be stiffer
brakes are great imo. but then I've never had a problem with SRAM/Avid of old. the wheels seem pretty tough. put a few dings in mine, and had to change the bearings in the back wheel. the number on the bearing doesn't match what you need to order for replacement either )plenty of other threads about this) easy to swap them though. 30's only come with 2 pawls and springs - SRAM won't sell you them separately. Hope Pro 3 ones will fit and doubles the pick up.
Just switched from XTs to Guide RS - powerful and much better feel / modulation imo. Reliability is supposed to be very good on them too.
Easy to bleed but you will need the Bleeding Edge adaptor if they are the latest ones with the S4 calliper (may come with).
Great brakes the new sram stuff guides and levels, better than the shimano's and 6 month ago I thought that shimano's were the best
Hey whatyadoinsucka, purchased a Spectral with the same gears in May. I like the brakes, they work just great. I especially like the touch, it is not as direct and suddenly intense as the XT or SLX. It gives you a little more playground to alter the power between open and fully closed positions what I really consider a plus compared to my previous XT where this playground is a little more limited
Regarding the wheel set I had to replace the bearings in the rear hub because the ones it comes with are cheap ones and couldn't handle the job. The rear wheel started to have a little play after 1,5 month. However, the rim is strong as hell and the spokes are also very strong and stylish, too. Once you change the bearings you have a perfect wheel set to handle rough stuff. Dear Sram, this wheel set deserves proper bearings. Canyon actually has been kind enough to refund me the cost of the must have upgrade:) I am very satisfied with their service and how they handled this case
forgot to mention, if changing the bearings the official sram manual/exploded view is not correct about the type/size of bearings you need. see related topic clarifying:

i.e. you need 3 pieces of 17x28x7 and 1 piece of 17x30x7 for the rear hub. go for more durable ones like these

Had a few days doing DH with the brakes . Fantastic , very impressed . Also the x9 shifter but that's another matter
Can't comment on the wheels, but the brakes are sound. I had Guide R's on my Demo which I've just switched out for the RSC's because they feel nicer to use and have a bite point adjuster that actually does something. Running RSC's on both bikes with no issues. I found it easier to get a good bleed with them compared to my previous XTR's and Zees.
The R's we're good also and dealt with my brake dragging at Antur without issue!
