After closing the caliper bleed port on my Guide Ultimates and pulling up on the lever syringe I just get a constant flow of air bubbles. I can't find any signs of a leak but presume there must be one somewhere.
Any ideas on where to start looking would be much appreciated.
Are you sure you are not just sucking air in between the syringe fitting and the brake?
Or the small hose and syringe body?
Thanks for the replies.
I'm thinking it must have been something like that. After spending most of last night fighting and preparing the brake for the bin, I've tried again tonight and all is fine.
Does anyone else find that the bite point adjuster works the opposite way round from the direction of the arrow?
Yes the bite point adjuster is totally counter intuitive
Do these use the same bleed kit as the Avid Juicy brakes? I was having a tidy up the other day and found the original Avid bleed kit.
It always worked really well on the wife's Juicy 5s but I'm wondering if it still has any use. Which I might one day be asked to help someone repair some Guide brakes, I don't see me ever working on a Juicy again.
Bite point adjuster works the opposite way
is that why I have trouble bleeding? Am I doing it with the adjuster the wrong way?
f you closer the system off, leave the bleed block in the caliper and squeeze the lever , do you get a squelching sound from it?
If so, I've had this before and the seals in the lever were goosed - a common problem because the did fluid degrades the rubber.
Search for guide lever rebuild kits - usually available from Germany for some reason at about £25. Easy enough to replace with help from YouTube and brakes will be like new.
