I have an unused Sram x7 2x front shifter. I want it to operate a Shimano direct mount front mech.

I will be using the inner two rings if a 10sp triple chainset.

Will this work? I have yet to buy the front mech, does it have to be a 3x, or will 2x work?

thanks

The pull ratio of front mechs SRAM / Shimano is usually the same, so yes, either shifter would work. The chainring gaps are also the same 2x and 3x so again you should be ok to use a 2x shifter to move between two of the three rings. Mechs are shaped to match the rings and tooth capacity so you'd be best using a 3x but a 2x would probably work anyway.

Have always used a SRAM shifter with a Shimano front mech. Never even thought it might not work.
