SRAM force XPLR shifting issues

I can’t find anything on this exact issue so thought I’d try here and see if anyone has any ideas while I wait (patiently!) for SRAM customer service to reply.

Managed to knock my rear mech (SRAM force xplr d2) today - few scuffs on the outside of the derailleur body, but while it still shifts and runs fine it won’t shift down from 1st (44T) to 2nd cog.  The light on the mech flashes when you shift and the app (in microadjust) shows it’s in gear 2 but no movement from the mech. When you shift again it jumps to 3rd cog.

oddly it shifts up fine, gear by gear, from 3rd to 2nd to 1st. But 1st to 2nd is no more!

I’ve checked everything I can think of. B limit, gap, mech hanger bolt, limit screws, chain tension. Nowt! It was fine before the knock but seems to be goosed now which sucks for a 1 month old £300 bit of kit that’s taken a little knock 🤬

anyone experienced similar or have any clever ideas/things to check?

cheers!

Mech hanger alignment? I know that they are sensitive from a quick google ( https://www.reddit.com/r/bikewrench/comments/13962jz/sram_axs_xplr_shifting_issues/) and if you have tried everything else ....

Good luck.

James

If you take the chain/wheel off does it do all the movements when you click the buttons?

No. The movement from 1st down to 2nd just doesn’t happen. I can hear the servo inside the mech when the light on the mech flashes (guessing this is what is telling the app that it’s in gear 2) but nothing moves

But have you tried it with no tension on the mech? If you lock the mech cage down using the button does it move then?

Does the micro adjust move the derailleur for every, or indeed any, increment when in the gear that it won’t shift from?

When you press the shifter can you manually help

it over? Might need three hands for that…

Yes. I have tried it with no tension in the mech - chain off, wheel off. No movement. I did try to manually move while shifting but that did nothing other than flex the mech a bit!

haven’t tried to micro adjust down when in 1st gear so will try that

I was going to say microadjust. Had similar, without the knock, I had effectively microadjusted it up a gear. Just took it down to 1 then full left lever microadjust and everything fell into place.

Just tried to micro adjust (down) from 1st gear and nothing. Mech light flashes but no movement.
micro adjust works fine (up and down) in other gears. It like it’s blocked from going down from 1st to 2nd!

Is the limit screw stopping it from moving down?

No. The limit screw is fine as I can shift up into first (44t), I just can’t shift down from 1st to 2nd, but then down to 3rd is fine. And up from 3rd, then 2nd and then 1st is also fine

Sounds like a trip to a SRAM dealer is required…☹️

sounds like a tooth on a ratchet not engaging, maybe stripped, they should warranty that

Fingers crossed. Have emailed SRAM support and the place I bought the mech from last month so will see how things go!

Have you tried re-pairing the components? I read somewhere that it resets them back to default config.

Yes I tried that this morning but hasn’t made any difference. I left the battery out for a few mins thinking that would help with reset - not sure if it made any difference!!

Sounds like the mech is just binding at a certain point. I'd have a good look at the pivot points; I bet one has been slightly damaged. Might be that a bit of GT85 or similar will fix this.

Did you contact SRAM directly or go to the place you bought it from?

SRAM replied yesterday to suggest I check the derailleur hanger! So have also contacted the place I purchased from - waiting on both……

SRAM Rider Care won’t be able to help with any warranty type issues, they are just a helpline really and will suggest all the things you have already tried before ultimately saying contact a SRAM authorised dealer.

Yes that’s pretty much what they’ve replied with today. Now waiting for the 2-3 day response time from the place I bought the mech from!

Hi Simon,

Did you ever get this resolved?  I have the exact same problem.  I’ve messaged SRAM but it would be good to know how it was sorted.

Thanks 👍
