Hi - cable bullet end is coming out of the housing it I dump a few downshifts in one go - the red wheel in the shifter rotates but the cable doesn’t go with it and comes out of the slot

I think the newer shifters have an enclosed housing rather than slotted

It’s a new cable and outer, although I realise it’s a 1.2mm inner, rather than 1.1mm as specified by sram.

Anyone had this? Any solutions?

My pal had somthing similar, I couldn't really figure out how it happened, but when I was installing a new cable I noticed it was REEEEEALLY hard to get it through the shifter, i.e. after it had passed through the red barrel.

I don't know if it's a design issue, a cleaning/lubrication issue, or if that 0.1mm difference in diameter is really critical. Either way, if there were a lot of resistance here then it might account for the cable head coming out when you dump gears?

It'll be down to cable routing,as the cable exits the shifter into the bars, you have to get the bend as shallow as possible otherwise it ****s the whole lot up. Or its hanging up somewhere else down the line, the hydroshifter is overly sensitive to poor routing and bad cables.

Bit of a crap design IMHO, the mechanical shifter routing is far smoother and superior. I've recabled mine (hydro) twice this past CX season and not touched the mechanical on the other bike.

Ermm I’m using wide flared bars so cable has to go round quite a tight bend - that probably doesn’t help...,

It only happened when I put a new cable in which is 1.2mm so I think this may be critical

My wife had a new shifter and the housing is fully enclosed - not slotted - so sram obviously recognise the issue

right - fitted new cable outer and 1.1mm inner. It still pops out of the housing if I dump shifts in the stand. I don't **think** it would happen riding normally but makes me nervous. Sh@t design
