Asking for a friend - no really!

He's just bought a new 52 tooth Eagle cassette only to be told that his current GX mech won't work very well with the new cassette. He doesn't like the chain slap from the GX mech anyway, so if he needs to get a new mech then he's thinking 12 speed Shimano would be the better option. But, will it work OK or preferably even better than OK? Any real world experience or knowledge?

1 extra tooth shouldn't be a problem, I'd say.

He may not even need a new shifter, the 12s cable pull are supposedly the same for Shimnao/SRAM

Given that the Shimano setup has a 51t I’d expect little problem with the mech capacity.
Setup may be a bit more sensitive to b tension, chain length etc as there is a very small difference in spacing between Sram and Shimano but it must be doable; I’m running AXS with an XTR cassette with no issues.

Has he looked at the TRP mech? It has the "Hall lock" which should help reduce chain slap and mech noises

I upgraded to the new 520% sram as soon as released and have tried various combos.

500% range GX shifter and mech work fine as do X01/XX1.

Even the SX shifter and mech does.

The price sweetspot for the 10-52 520% range is the Druvativ Descendant carbon cranks, GX cassette, chain and shifter and X01 rear mech.

Not watched the video, but assuming that is a SRAM 10-52 cassette that is a huge jump up to the big sprocket! I think i would prefer either the SRAM 10-50 or the Shimano 10-51 due to closer ratios.
