After user opinions if anyone has used both please?
Decided to upgrade my best bike brakes, and move those across to the winter hack.
It's for a YT capra, which is full enduro used, steep techy downs. Currently got code R's.
Cheers guys
you could just add the code rsc master cylinder to what you have as the rest of the system is the same
I've been toying with replacing my Guides recently & both of these were on the list. Out of the two the Codes were probably the better choice for me for a couple of reasons.
4 pads is annoying in the Maguras. And more expensive. Couldn't quite work out if the 2 pad system from the MT5 would fit. The levers felt really cheap and nasty. Needed to replace them with the 1 finger version & the bolts on them felt super cheap and easy to damage.
The Codes are beastly. They are heavy, but feel like a more powerful Guide, which is a good thing IMO. If I get round to it, it will probably be down this route.
I haven't used the maguras, but I have the code rsc on my capra. They're a great brake so far, really powerful,no fade, even on very long enduro world series tracks (not ridden at ews race pace I might add), great modulation, reliable (over the 9 months I've owned them anyway), easy to Bleed. All the adjustments actually work and are worthwhile. You can easily set them Up how you prefer, eg long lever throw or short lever throw, close to the bars, far away from bars etc
They do tend to go through pads at quite a rate, but I put that down to a consequence of them being very powerful.
If I had to be critical, the bite point adjust can get stuck, but its easy enough to free up once you work out the knack (tip - squeeze the lever a little to take pressure off the adjuster) - but thats it.
I asked myself the same when looking at brakes for my new Tues. In the end I went with the Code RSC because I have Guide RSC on my other bike and I'm hoping they will be as good in both terms of modulation and adjustment. The MT7 look great, but come out at a similar price and sticking with the SRAM also meant only one bleed kit / fluid. MT7 are more powerful by all accounts but not sure the feel is a good. I liked the magnetic pad idea, but I suspect I'll only really notice that when I'm changing pads whereas the feel I'll notice every time I pull the leaver 🙂
Great advise there guys
Much appreciated.
I love my Code R's, but I'm dissapointed in my guide R's on the winter hack.
I love the look of the MT7, but as you say, lever feel is much more important.
I have found the MT7 at a great price, but then I'll have to buy discs anyway so they work out the same
No exprience with the Maguras, but my Code RSCs feel great. Didn't fade or wander at all doing a full day at Stiniog last week.
Not had Code but just binned a set of Maguras for Guides. They are way better.
Amy problem with the Code Rs?
Only asking as I've just bought a set myself.
New Hayes Doninion a4, mate has just put them on his bike, think they will be good
I have the Magura MT5 with the upgraded 1 finger lever and absolutely love them. Very nice lever feel with good modulation and more power on tap than any other brake I have ridden. Other bikes in the garage have Hope M4s and various Shimanos. Better than the Shimanos in all aspects and more powerful than the hopes if not quite as smooth and controlled (but extremely close) not a massive lover of sram but haven't tried the newer codes or guides.
I say go for the Maguras.

Oh and to add, the one piece mt5 pads and the 2 piece (per side) mt7 pads are interchangeable. Also the 4 individual pads approach is no more hassle (The magnetic pad/caliper make it painfully easy) and no more costly. You still buy 1 pack per end and it costs just the same as any other brake.
