Anything to know/watch out for?
I'm aware of the clamps not coming with the brakes
Check if you want the stealthamajig connector or not, bout all there is to it.
You may need a longer rear hose. We bought a couple as spares just in case we broke one so the rear hose length wasn't a problem as it probably wouldn't be used.
Hose and fittings are sram specific
so shortening or extending can be expensive. IMO ~£100 an end more accurately reflects the performance they give. Fantastic brakes until they get heat soaked. I’ve donated mine to my 10 year old. He’s very very happy with them. Reach adjuster is very effective. Bite point adjuster less so.
We also have a couple of sets of Guide REs which I cant fault and are about £100 for 2 on CRC
I bought x2 of the rear 1600mm ones at 99 each
I ordered lifeline sj olive inserts £7
X2 std bar clamps from amazon £18 pr
Bleeding was as easy as making a brew
On mine the bite point has a massive effect contrary to the above
I did order another and return one of the original ones as everytime you pulled the lever you could hear the spring grating on the plastic piston inside the lever ,I've had this before but it's rare but I did used to be a wc mechanic so many people Inc my riding buddies would probably never hear it .
The cheaper code r use alloy pistons not ceramic coated and I've had friends buy them and upgrade the lever and experience overheating due to the alloy pistons been absolutely abysmal and heat management
Buy some hunters grease re hope and lube the pistons every few months with a cotton ear bud and you'll have no issues .
I wonder if the aftermarket RSCs are entirely different construction to the OEMs I’ve just ripped off my whyte, as really they’re sh1te.
I didn’t realise the R & RSC pistons are different, thought it was just the lever.
The SRAM spares manual shows the same part number for the pistons for both, is it just that you can’t buy the alloy ones so if you have to repair an R caliper you have to also upgrade it to RSC.
Actually according to this (and the parts manual) same pistons
SRAM olives and barbs are an AliExpress / Wish item in bundles of 10. Identical to OEM and in use her for years.
RSC bite adjust makes a big difference imho.
We also have a couple of sets of Guide REs which I cant fault and are about £100 for 2 on CRC
I think these are massively under appreciated brakes. Bargain price and just work with no fuss and plenty of power. Lever could be a bit more refined but they are fantastic at the price.
I had code r brakes and bought a set of these now I have the nice levers and a spare sets of code r just in case 😉
Wiggle also sell sram olives inserts x4 of each branded lifeline exact same as oem stealthamajig £7
