Quite familiar with the older gen SRAM Codes... Always found the bite point adjust on RSC's a little superfluous personally, but the swing link made a huge difference over the R's performance and feel wise so was always worth the extra spend. No experience of the latest "stealth" versions though...
Just looking at options for a new bike... Even the Bronze version now has the swinglink in the lever. I can see that the Silver has nicer finishing, cartridge bearing pivots etc... But do the Silvers feel significantly better in use? Or do they feel much the same?
Just speccing brakes for a new bike, can get a new OEM pair of SRAM Code Bronze's for £150 or Silvers for £250... Are the Silvers worth the extra £100 basically?
Just my view on this but I'd suggest yes as the cartridge bearings should keep the lever from waggling for much longer.
Saying that, I'm not sure it is £100 worth of yes. What else do the silvers do/have/include for the extra cost?
If just the cartridge bearings, can they be retrofitted to the Bronze for less than the £100 difference?
Only differences I can see from looking at the specs...
-Different finish
-Forged lever blade on the Silver (just says aluminium for Bronze, assuming cast or stamped)
-Tool free reach adjust on Silver (none on Bronze)
-Cartridge bearing pivot on Silver vs bushing on Bronze
To be honest, these will probably be a bit of a stop gap anyway (hoping to be able to afford some Trickstuff's again in the not too distant future), so where I'd normally not think twice about spending the extra for cartridge bearing pivots, the amount I ride I'm sure the Bronze's would be fine anyway... And I am not bothered about the reach adjust feature either.
But anybody got any actual experience of both brakes and can compare/contrast in use...?
If they're still doing the stamped lever like the old Codes that would be enough for me to pay the extra. Flimsy, nasty feeling crap that folds at the first sign of a crash. The cast ones are so much better.
