Moving from a 73 to 83mm BB width. I already sold one SRAM XX1 chainset to buy a 168Q (boost) model, and now my chainset doesn't seem to fit. I tighten it up, and the CS doesn't really turn (new BB, no spacers), my common sense says that it's likely that the same CS won't just be able to cover an extra 10mm,
Can someone tell me that I won't have to sell (at significant loss, again) my very nice carbon XX1 chainset and new BB to buy a new one?
If it is the case, what chain sets do people recommend? Raceface any good nowadays? Any good deals on the hope ones if they're any good?
The SRAM site is next to useless, and I can't seem to see options on BB width on any of the shop sites.
Sorry for the shit questions, any help very gratefully received.
Sorry can you carify have you changed framed from a 73mm bb shell frame to a new frame with an 83mm bb shell?
SRAM BB widths and axels are not interchangeable a 68/73mm chainset will only work with a 68/73mm bb and likewise a 83mm chainset will only work with a 83mm bb.
You got it o_h_h, from 67 to 83. Thanks and bugger!
New crankset time. Again. That XX1 has hardly seen any action at all!
Raceface Cinch chain sets are good so long as you avoid the NeXT SL’s which seem to have trouble keeping the pedal inserts in the carbon arms. The RF chain sets do have interchangeable axles (this is what the 12mm Allen fitting is for) but they’re all 30mm BB. Rotor and Praxis both make useful BB alternatives.
Good info thanks. Looking at hope at the moment but the turbines look a fair alternative.
My Turbine Cinches have been a great purchase. Very happy with them.
I can't seem to find the Turbines available with BSA 83mm spindle, only the SIXC's. Manufacturers published information on crankset compatibility is dreadful. Having scoured their site, I still have no idea if SRAM make a non-DH crankset which will take a 83mm BB. Running around in circles trying to find how to figure chainline too.
The SRAM X0 83mm cranks are the same as the 68/73mm cranks in terms of construction and weight. They are only 'DH' because of the 83mm axel and the single ring only compatibility.
