You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Right then, after stripping the 6th cog out of my cassette while at Swinley last week I removed it & the chain to work out what I had so that I may replace like for like as it was all working well previously.
Bit of background required here - I've got an '09 Trek Fuel EX8, and these bits were the originals that came with the bike.
So, considering the shifters are SLX, the chainring XT and the mechs also XT you can imagine my surprise that both the cassette and chain are SRAM. I didn't think you were supposed to mix the two?
My dilemma is this, do I get SRAM bits again as I was perfectly happy with how it was working, or do I replace with XT kit?
Thanks.
its just sram shifters with an X in teh name that don't work with shimano, cassettes, chains,a nd rocket shifters are fine
Buy the cheapest - no noticeable difference between the two hence trek mixing them up.
It's only the sram shifter and mech that is incompatible with shimano due to differing cable pull.
SRAM and Shimano cassettes are interchangeable in 8 and 9 speed. Not sure about 10?
Thanks everyone, it's 9 speed so either would be compatible.
Off to find myself a bargain now and get it sorted so I'll be back on the trails by the end of the week 🙂
