I’m trying to build up a bike for my brother from old bits. I’ve got a choice of two sram guide rear brakes but need to thread them internally and am struggling. The best option would be to remove the fittings from the calliper end as the frame is designed to be threaded from the front. Googling has failed me as to how.

is it possible to remove the fittings from the hose in either of these? If so how?

Ideally I’d like to reuse the fittings and not shorten the cable.

Thanks

chris

Sorry about the diabolical formatting. Haven’t posted in a while!

I tend to run Shimano these days but from memory of using SRAM brakes in the past I think that the barbs are inserted using a Torx key, screwing into the hose. As I said though, I haven’t used SRAM in a while.

The SRAM barb can be removed. Check the SRAM website. The olive should be unscrewed first, think it has a reverse thread, but I think it can be forced off by unscrewing the barb with brute force.

If the hose had been cut at the banjo, I think it is new hose time (not cheap !).

You could only remove the fittings at the lever end on the ones I had.

Lever end only unfortunately, the calliper end is factory crimped on.

I feel you pain, it took me ages to feed the brake hose up through that little hole on my Evol, I think I used a gear cable fed down from the top as a guide to get it close and then a small seal pick to catch it a wiggle it through.
