Winter bike has a 1x10 set up with a knackered X7 derailleur. I'm looking for a replacement (not another x7) but the Sram web site has no suggestions as to what derailleur would work with a 1x10 with a 11-42 cassette. There appears to be no options available. I doubt this is the case as there must be other options out there. Looking at their web site the x7 I have should in theory not work! I was thinking of a GX 10 speed but I cant find any tech info on what cage length might work - the Sram site is hopeless.

What derailleurs are others running for this configuration? I think I might switch over to Shimano as they seem to have better options available.

Cheers

A GX will work, but they're made of cheese.
I managed to score an old XO & it's miles better. X9 type 2.1 clutch is also good.

GX medium or long cage will work.

X9 is ok but didn't seem to have quite as much reach for 42T, better with a dropout extender.

GX replaced X0, X9, X7 etc so a lot easier / cheaper to come by.

+1 you need to get quite spendy SRAM compared to shimano if you want similar durability

Thanks for the replies. I emailed Sram as well to ask them and their answer was 'nothing will work as the max cassette range for GX is 36 teeth'. They said move to 11sp! I'm sure the GX will work but they just dont advertise it! I'll see if I can get a Shim XT on special as it will almost be the same price as GX at full price.

I ran a 10 speed gx mech with an 11-42 Sunrace cassette and 32t chainring. No bother. Prior to that I had X9 which sort of covered the range but was a bit baggier of pivot and sensitive to cable tension.

Current 10 speed deore covers up to an 11-46 I think - just need to check if it’ll work with your Sram shifter - I’m not sure what was compatible in terms of cable pull and when.

I was running a SRAM X-9 10-speed with an 11-42 Sunrace cassette and a 32t chainring for ages with no bother. I've just fitted an 11-46 Sunrace cassette with a Sunrace extender link and if anything that seems slightly better
