Should probably have asked before I bought it but will an Eagle 10-52T cassette work with my shimano shifters and mech?

( I think I got a Sram freehub adaptor with my wheels, so that bit is covered.

I’m all ears as i think I need a new gx rear mech so I could in theory now swap quite cheaply

It only needs the spacing to be the same. Is it?

Yeah as long as the shimano bits are 12 speed

I've not tried it with a Shimano chain but I use a XT mech and shifter with a gx cassette and x01 chain.

I run an Eagle 10-50 cassette with XT mech and shifter. Usually paired with a SRAM chain, but have used KMC too.

Yes it all works fine. As long as you've made sure your mech hanger is straight and put some time into fine tuning the B-screw.
Speaking of B-screw I line up my 50 tooth cog with the 51T line on the mech.

Full Shimano will apparently shift better, but I haven't had the opportunity to compare.

Sram / Shimano 12 speed is interchangeable - current Shimano mechs are rated to a max 51 tooth cassette but in reality it will probably be fine.

I have a 10-52 on my fat bike running shimano XT 12sp.

Works fine.

But I want AXS now…

XTR mech and shifter and XT mech and shifter on two bikes with 10-50 SRAM cassette and X01 chains. Absolutely no issues at all. If you run a Shimano chain I would go XTR as they ae supposed to last longer although I haven't tried one. Chain rings are SRAM and Raceface.
