I used Squirt for the first time today. I followed the instructions, and the chain was clean and dry. Did 40k and got that horrible dry chain noise. Had to do the last 20k with it making a racket.

Did I do something wrong or is Squirt not very good? Do you have to put loads and loads and loads on?

I put loads on..
leave it to dry..
put more on
leave to dry
go riding .. and no probs for about 5 or 6 rides provided I dont use soap on the drivetrain.. and just spray it clean with water

I was very happy with the performance, except for the fact i needed re-apply after 60-70 vaguely wet scottish kms.

In future will I'm just going to apply more liberally.

It's been a wee bit hit and miss for me. When it works it's been great - really quiet chain that doesn't attract much muck at all although on other occasions it's been dry and squeaky after 20 miles. Think I need to bung more on during initial application or do it twice as soulrider does.

they recommend you do it twice for the first application, i do it twice every time.

i think my problem is i don't put enough on, i'm used to being very sparing with the wet lube!

I apply it twice after I clean the bike, then once more quite liberally before I head out. The chain is much cleaner than with normal lube in wet and dry conditions, although on longer rides (4 hours +) it does tend to make a wee bit of noise so I just reapply a bit.

I'm very happy with it. Now a days I just have to swish my chain in the sink to clean it and then dry it on the radiator or under the grill!!
It doesn't seem to stick to a chain unless it's been utterly completely degreased, but after that the chain seems to drink it. I think it's probably not so good applied straight before riding as the wax has to dry and set.

seems as though its a fair bit more expensive than normal lube? is it much better?

Put plenty on. It's really good. Not having to reapply much at the moment in the dry conditions. When it's wet I reapply after every ride. Best lube I've used for all year round conditions.

agree with all of the comments above. Did you shake the bottle reeeally well before you used it?

I gace my chain a double clean just to make sure it was proper clean, then dried it off with a cloth best I could and left it for a half hour. I then gave the chain a good coating of the stuff and left it overnight...when I checked the chain the next morning or looked rock solid covered in the stuff - the links and external plates of the chain were coated - it said apply liberally on first application - so I did. Now I'm just needing a quick spin of the cranks whilst applying every fortnight and it seems to be doing it nicely. Saying that if I was to ride my bike more often I'd do it weekly, but after the first 'base' coat was put on I'm not having any issues at all. I reckon it's superb and I'm trying to get my local shop to become a stockist of it but if that fails, I'll just buy direct.

I think you have to basically drown the chain on first application then it seems to work well. I really like it.

I want to put this stuff on a new chain i've got, should I degrease it to remove the assembly lube SRAM leave on them for delivery?

The 'instructions' say you need to completely clean it so I'd say yes...however, the stuff on brand new bike chains can last a couple of rides...so I'd wait until a few rides in and then do it (no point not using the stuff that is already on the chain).

I did find that if I tried to spray the cahin with WD40 or anything like that that the Squirt wouldn't last very long so it has to be completely clean and dry...now I just add a wee bit and it seems to last very well.

Saying that I've only done a few really wet and muddy rides but the chain did seem to last well - but I left it too long before reapplying and the chain was showing a lot of signs of rust - so it got another good degreasing/cleaning and the process started again...

Very happy with it but yes re-apply every say 50 miles or so or after washing/very wet ride IME 🙂

I thought it was brilliant when I used it, applied liberally before doing a 12 hour solo and my chain remained absolutely silent despite 12 river crossings. Need to get some more actually, particularly as I live about 200m from the distributor!

I had a really poor experience when I used it.

I thoroughly degreased the chain, hung it up and let it dry for a couple of days. Wiped it down with a clean rag and applied as instructed. I then repeated for good measure. When i came to fit the chain it was coated, plenty of evidence of wax all over the plates links etc. Went riding and it was ace, nice and quiet. Shifting was cr@p but that's probably because I was riding singlespeed (sorry Monday morning attempt at levity). Anyway, the ride was wet but not that wet if you follow me. I got home, put the bike away and went in to thaw out, etc. Next morning I went to clean the bike and the chain was solid with rust. Very disappointing. Anyway, I thoroughly cleaned the chain and went back to my old lube.

i find that the biggest benefit of it is that the chain doesnt fuzz up with dirt and sand. This is a big plus in my local area. If neccessary i give the bike a quick wash, let it dry and reapply the lube afterwards. Only what i would have done with most other lubes, just that this one doesnt collect dirt.

Worked ok at dusk til dawn - lasted 6 laps before i needed a drop more but any other of my normal lubes would have turned the chain into a big furry caterpillar!

Not really that much more expensive. But then performance isn't really that much better.
Preferable to FinishLine as its easier to clean off.
I found the Pace version of chain wax to be better. Lasts longer and not so fussy about a clean/dry chain.

IME you should always degrease a new chain. The assembly lube is so sticky it attracts all the crap.
