I'm sure this has been covered a million times, but I'd like some advice. Apologies for my newbness.
I have a bike I bought second hand with shimano deore m615 brakes. The rear brake howls like a banshee and the front brake performs poorly. Neither will lock up.
I changed the rear pads for new, I also cleaned the rotor with disc brake cleaner several times until the cloth was coming up clean. It is performing better but it still refuses to lock up, and still howls under heavy braking. The front I haven't done anything with yet other than clean it as it isn't making noise, but again it refuses to lock up.
The levers do continue to pull back after braking hard, but not by a lot. Kind of feels like how cabled brakes do. I was expecting hydraulics to lock up very easily. Having had mechanical discs on a previous bike, they were very effective and I was expecting hydraulics to be even better.
Any ideas? Do I just need to bleed the brakes, or do I need new rotors as well as pads?
Probably leaking fluid though the piston (squealing) and sucking in air (spongy). So new piston seals or new calipers.
