I have a 2012 Lapierre Zesty 314 complete with Formula RX disc brakes.
I've used various brands of pads but it is still on the standard / original rotors. The brakes squeak or more like squeal upon application, both front and rear.

Any ideas? New rotors, contaminated, dirty, or just how it is...

It's rather annoying so any solutions would be appreciated.

Si.

There's some stuff that is cheap and easy to do that may resolve it for you.

1. Clean your rotors with some isopropyl alcohol or proprietary disc cleaner
2. Put your pads in the oven for an hour or two. This can burn off any contaminants
3. Rub the pads on some (clean) sandpaper. This - I believe - deglazes them
4. Bed them in again with a few stoppies etc

I had some truly horrific brake squeal and really poor braking performance. I followed the above steps - 2 hours at 180 degrees - and my brakes are fantastic (and quiet) now.

What I'm not sure of is what caused the problems initially? Some stray GT85 perhaps?

Ha some squeaky under powered xt disk brakes last year. Bled them with no change so toasted the pads on my camp stove, luckily the night before hitting glencoe... Made such a difference, couldn't believe it, and couldn't have ridden glencoe without doing it tbh.
The issue was probably caused by my over zealous use of gt85,but I tried isopropyl on the rotors and calipers before hand and it didn't help

If it's a nasty juddering squawk just before the bike stops, it's definitely oil contamination. The dishwasher is pretty good for degreasing too but don't put shiny alloy parts in there as they'll come out pitted by the hot caustic. Guess how I know this?

Globalti...hmmm do I get one guess.... 8)

The bike doesn't judder just squeals like a pig on the brakes. Don't have a dish-washer (thankfully!) so that's that option out.
