Currently building up a trek bike, with an 83mm bottom bracket
Bought as a frame and 'i have a lovely set of raceface cranks, wondering if there is such a thing as a 83mm square taper?
Dont really want to upgrade as it is a second bike.
I can see that they make ISIS drive 83mm but I cannot see a square tape.
Thanks in advance
Joe
build your own?

what axle length do you need?
what a great website!
Thanks for that! I dont have a clue how do you determine the length of axel required?
Joe
Not easy.
You need to work out how far you can install the cups against the bearing faces on the axle, then which axle will be long enough for your cranks to clear the shell and give you the right chainline.
Out of interest which trek frame has an 83mm BB shell?
It is a trek session, freeride bike style with 1.5 steerer ect.
fustrating!
TBH you'd be better off biting the bullet and getting a cheap 83mm crankset from On-One - someone "over-bought" odd size cranks 😉 🙄

The set at On One has contradicting info...fits 83mm but not 68/73 but then gives chainline for 68mm.
Edit: •Chainline – 50mm (BB-68mm) – 57.5mm(BB-83mm) from MTBR reviews.
This 83mm BB is for a 150mm rear axle.
The SJS link is for a DIY 68mm shell.
I would avoid both altogether.
You cannot fit a 73mm ST BB and use a deep metal LH cup.
Never heard of an 83mm Square Taper, but I await a link.

They do or did exist, a guy I worked with a few years ago had an Iron Horse (pre Sunday) DH bike with an 83mm sq taper bb. God knows what it was though....
