so I've just tried to replace my bottom bracket on my old steel road bike with a miche chainset - Italian thread, same axle length (111mm), same body width (70mm) but when I attach the cranks the chain line seems to be further outboard than it was (probably by 3-4mm) - as though the square tape bit is a slightly different size.

Anybody explain where I've messed up? - or should I just not worry about it and put up with the odd chain line

I know that Campagnolo use a slightly different size on the taper itself...

Confused - are you replacing BB or chainset?

Replaced the BB, it was the final bit of the drive train (except the crank arms) I've replace. All of it has been odd non standard sizes. Maybe the old miche crank arms don't use the campag square taper. The old bb used a campag cassette tool to get it out, so I thought it would be campag.

Oh well, I guess just do it up tight and hope for the best

[edit] bb was this one wiggle link
