I've been using the inner bar-ends along with the 711(?) grips for a while now. Grips are comfy without feeling too bulky and the little bar stubs provide a good alternative hand position. Only issue is that I can't get the grips to tighten on fully. The stubs have replaced the grip clamps and though they are tight on the bar, the grips are able to twist occasionally when hopping logs and such like. I've tried fibre grip and wrapping a couple of thicknesses of parcel tape on the bar which has helped but not eliminated the problem. I can't run the grips with their clamps and the stubs separately as that would push my brake lever to far inboard.
Anyone else suffered similar and found a solution?
How about a bit of grip tape?
Not used attached to grips, but use these on a couple of bikes and never had an issue with movement. I do seriously tighten them though.

How tight is too tight though? I'm already well north of the suggested torque value.

Yeah, not ridiculous. I haven't checked with a torque wrench, but suspect north of it too. I did give them some serious pulling and pushing last night and tbf they did start to move, so it might be that I don't put much through them when riding.
The bar-ends are solid enough. You're only resting your hands on them so they're fine. It's the rotating grips that are a pain.
So I gave up after another tape experiment and reverted to clamped grips and separate bar-ends. The brake lever position was workable in the end. I prefer the bar-ends between the grip and brake lever so I can still use the brakes and gears from that position.
I have the same set up as Andy above and like that when I'm on the inner bar ends I can still touch the brake levers on downhills and through town. No big braking efforts but for a bit of control. Also had to overtighten the main grips to stop them moving. I have the same Ergon grips on 2 bikes and same issue on both.
