Greasing the old HL Flux pivots today and the left rear is squeaking. The smaller zerks didn't take much grease so assumed they weren't that 'dry' but guess I'll have to take it out and maybe replace.
I thought I'd saved a how to pic thing but can't find it now, looked on You Tube too but only seen a rebuild vid but not a how to strip down one.
Anyone help out at all?
Thanks
What's more likely is that wear debris has filled up the helical groove and it can't take any more grease and is still dry.
Strip it. It's remarkably easy.
Yep. Very simp!e. No need for a YouTube tutorial. Just take the bolt out and slide the middle bit out. Clean, grease, replace
Thanks guys will have a look later.
I've tried looking for rebuild kits but none in UK by the looks of it?
Agree it is easy to strip out, just completely stripped mine down, didn't take long to do.
No rebuild kits available in UK, its direct to Turner, although with some help & information from NorthCountryBoy of this parish i am trying to source replacement bushes from Igus so will post back with success, prices, etc.
That's only for bushings though so if shafts are goosed it's Turner only.
This is what I used, Igus do free samples btw.
Main Pivots (6 bushes):
iglidur J
Code JFI-0809-08
1/2" shaft
1/2" wide
Stay Pivots (4 bushes):
iglidur G
Code GFI-0708-04
7/16" shaft
1/4" wide
For reference, I just ordered the top rocker service kit direct from Turner.
Kit $50
Postage $10
Import fees £8
Handling Fee: £8
i.e. Chuffing expensive for what you get!
Ive gone down the Igus free sample route aswell.
Reference numbers i had were slightly different, though that may be down to different materials.
How was the fit of the Igus bushes Ultracrepidarian?
Cheers guys, knocked out the centres and regreased. Squeak gone 🙂
Question for another time, how do you remove the actual bushes?
I had noticed Silverfish have had no spares for quite some time. Why so? Are Turner cutting middle men out?
Had an email from them, didn't answer about supplies over here just said could order from them direct so sounds like will get stung for costs like thegingerone did.

they just tap in, easier to change than bearings.
There seems to be a problem at the moment with Turner and the UK. Had a few issues myself as have friends. Not sure how it's all going to pan out. Bit deflated since they've always been my go to company and own 4 Turners for myself and gf.
Friend's Czar rocker has cracked and he's having no joy. He's even called them.
I've got all the igus codes and do have some bushes as I purchased a load from Igus.
Don't forget Igus do the bushes in different materials, and metric and imperial.
I will dig out the codes. I did it a while ago.
With the bushes they don't always take grease so just remove them and clean them all up. The bushes themselves very rarely wear.
JFI-0809-04 (clevis iirc)
JFI-0809-08 (main pivot)
JFI-1011-08 (DW for Czar)
There you go.

It's not just at the moment. Normal consumables have been difficult to come by for at least a year and they've been problematic to find at least a year before that.
The last couple of times I've sought advice on worn linkages and lateral slop, the advice and attitude has been off hand and a bit dismissive.
I get the impression that wider markets are a bit too much hassle these days, or that they're deliberately restricting stock to push people to go to the newer bikes with bearings.
Virtually no spares availabilty and excessive cost of those spares, coupled with no obvious successor to the Sultan are the reasons why for the first time in 10 years my new full suss is not a Turner.
I got the very same impression when i emailed Turner a few weeks ago to inquire about availability and shipping. I got a reply from Dave Turner who essentially said that there wasn't much demand for parts and bikes in the UK so certainly didn't have any plans to re-establish a UK agent. His attitude was very CBA.
Doesn't bode well for the future, at least bushes are in plentiful supply from Igus. I've just requested enough samples to replace all of them on my 5 Spot, however i'm going to order more as there are 3 of us on my riding group who run Turners.

Agreed but what I meant is it's come to a head with the distributor who are a very frustrated. Probably passed that now.
I think this is pretty much as a consequence as the result of doing Asian carbon as this was never the case before.
I've got a mate who dropped 6000 on a Czar build in the last 6 months and the way he's been treated was terrible. Given he's an older generation and only potters around the forest, and his rocker is broke they didn't want to know.
So disappointing.

What route did you go?
Turner are a funny one for me, i can never figure out if they just like being a small outfit or not. Every business needs to change and move with the times but they seem to just not care at all about social media or the branding which these days is so much a part of any bike manufacturers identity. Also the forum on MTBr is also very quiet with little input any more. Compare that to MRP who are another small manufacturer who daily has Noah Sears popping up to help people out. If you lose that small team customer service you will lose sales.
I have 2 turners in the garage. An older 5 spot which never gets used due to my lad not really being interested in bikes and an RFX which is by far the best bike i have ever owned. BUT would i buy another one? If everything i have read on here is true i would have to rethink it. What other 160mm bikes climb and descent so well? I guess i might have some fun finding out 🙂
Saying that i have never had anything but good service from them. There is someone on here who had pretty poor service last year that was also a bit of an eye opener.
They're pushing for direct sales now. And we chatted to them whilst in the States about it and it looked an option.
But what happens after you've gone home?

I think DT admits they have virtually no marketing budget. They ran on word of mouth which works while everyone is happy.
rone, aye thats ace when you take care of everybody and all word of mouth is positive. Right now MRP seem to be doing that amazingly well. But Turner seem to be letting the one thing that made them different slide.
I know 5 people who have RFX's and absolutely love them. In my mind they are up there as one of the best "enduro" bikes out there, but you just don't see them out on the trails. Again maybe DT doesnt care about a wee island over here but he should care about the people who have paid a hell of a lot of money to but his bikes and aftercare.
JFI-0809-04 (clevis iirc)
JFI-0809-08 (main pivot)
JFI-1011-08 (DW for Czar)There you go.
Please excuse my ignorance rone, but which pivot is which on my Czar?
Clevis are top rockers. Main pivot is the single one connected half way down the seat tube, and DW are the two big ones on the bottom linkage.
I've no idea why the top ones were called clevis, probably best known as top rockers of which there are 4 bushes.
It's a shame, but the move to offshore manufacturing seems to have really hurt Turner. The RFX was an amazing bike to ride, we ordered ours based on faith in the brand. However, there were issues with them both and I don't think they can offer the customer service they used to as they don't seem to have the same level of control over the product.

More worryingly they seem not to be even trying.
What happened with your RFX?
We were lucky, got a refund for both.
What route did you go?
I basically wanted a Sultan with nu skool geometry and a bit more beef. I'm particularly sold on DW but without going carbon my choices were limited.
In the end, the Banshee Prime popped up on my radar. It's near as damn it a dW linkage bike and nearly half the price of something like a Pivot.
Its early days, but so far I'm very pleased with it.
Seems to me (and I don't know whether it's commercial suicide) the best thing Turner could do is bring out something back like the Sultan in alu. Though I remember DT saying he was forced to carbon by the consumer.
In the mean time my alu Flux is going nowhere.
Just looking at silver fishes prices for parts. Ouch. When did a hanger get to £45
Must be costing them too.
I remember importing a DW rebuild kit for about £80. Looks to be £179!
😯
Think I've got a couple of mech hangers kicking about. New and unused, I expected my frames to last longer.
Just priced up a. HL rebuid kit, zerks and shock bolts.
Reckon with all the fees it'll work out to £145 or so.
Interesting thread. Owner of a HL 5Spot, spoken to Dave a few times over the years and found him and Greg very helpful - sent me some zerks foc once. I bought a full rebuild kit a year or so after buying the bike just in case, didn't use it of eight years and then only cause I had the frame resprayed. Hope to keep the bike going as long as possible, can't afford anything of the same standard now.
Not heard of Igus, just looked them up and they're on the same trading estate as me!

Very typical of what things were like in the alu years.
My 2005 6-pack is still going strong and with a 68° head angle, still not totally outdated. Changed the bushes on that after ten years but they didn't need it.
Onzadog what was the problem with your frames?
I had a problem with my rfx and it took a couple of months to get sorted not like the old days and also some heated emails!
It's happened to more people that I thought!
I had a Czar arrived cracked and with clear coat damaged. Got a refund on that to be told no more frames left. The clear coat I could live with.
Still got my original Czar and love it.
About the only thing I didn't have issue with was cracking. Mine was more tolerance/alignment/shock wear/fasteners.
the best thing Turner could do is bring out something back like the Sultan in alu.
I picked up a 2nd hand Sultan and am building it as 650b+ - there was a review from one of the shows where the guy had tried a dozen or so 650b+ bikes from various people and the converted Sultan was his favourite, so there wouldn't have been many changes to put it into production.
But it's not carbon, is it, and I guess that is where the market is.
Even thought there are problems recycling it...
I also ordered a couple of rebuild kits and have one 26 flux with good bushes left in it and another with the Push bushes in it.
With my mincing riding style that should hopefully last me for a while.
Keep an eye on those bush bushing, I had a set and they wore very quickly but more importantly, damaged to pivot shaft (which is going to be the tricky part to replace from now on).
IME it was always pivot shafts that wore first anyway.
Guess I'd been lucky with mine then. Original parts lasted a decade, push stuff lasted months.
I suspect it's the forces involved. My HL 5 spot had three bush kits in the 7 years I owned it.
The DW sultan needed a kit a year.
Granted my riding is a bit more aggro than the days on the 5spot, but I suspect the stiffer linkages and rear sub-frame of the DW design focussed higher loads on the pivots than the bendier HL designs ever did. That's supported by the linkages wearing away on the bush lip too (flat part of the 'top hat', which wasn't even a thing with the HL.
Interestingly, when I switched to the stiffer DW mono link, the pivot hardware lasted even less time.
Scienceofficer +1
Ally experience was on a HL 6-pack. My DW time was on bearings.
