You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I seem to have lost some zing recently. I used to be alright but have noticed I’m the past few months that when I get out of the seat to really push it I’m either just not feeling it, or I fatigue much faster than I did before.
Maybe that’s just me getting older. Riding with a DH elite rider 20 years junior last week may have made it seem worse of course.
My approach to cycling is wholly unscientific, although I do have a Wahoo and a hrm.
I’d like to incorporate some sprint intervals into my 30km mostly flat commute if possible. I have long straights on tar, gravel, and options for some hilly alternatives with 100m climb at the end of the home leg.
Help me get my mojo back…
What has worked for you?
20 second flat-out sprints - just go, hammer it until it really hurts. No need for a HRM as it’s just maximal effort. Take it easy/recovery until you’re no longer breathing out your ar$e and go again and see if you can squeeze 6 efforts out. Make sure you get a warm up to start and a spin-down at the end. Used to this as standing/rolling starts on a fixed gear track bike. Based on Tabata protocol which has shown to give biggest boost to VO2 max.
Ok thanks.
That’s not too far off what I did on my way home tonight.
1x11 32t on a 29er limited things as I spin out but seemed to manage around 15secs and did it 12 times as I quite enjoyed it.
Traffic light GP sounds like what you need.
Whenever you get to a stop on your commute you accelerate hard away from the lights. Don't do to many or you'll end up on your hands and knees.
That sounds fun. There’s only three sets of lights, but i can manufacture some logical stopping points.
