Is there much difference in performance between the two? Why would you personally choose one over the other?

For me it depended on how much chain slack I had to take up. When I had a certain frame, without using a half link, there was simply too much slack for a sprung one to be effective - the chain bounce would overcome the spring and I'd dump the chain.
I went for a DMR STS bolt in one. It was more of a faff to adjust for chain wear/stretch, and taking the wheel out for tyre changes/car packing/punctures, but overall, I think I preferred the bolt in option.
