I am after a long sleeved top for cooler days, say less than 10 deg.

Having had Pneumonia twice in the last few years I need a top that keeps cold off my chest, but still enables me to work hard.

Do tops exist that have 'wind proofing' on the chest and maybe even arms exposed to the wind, but the back is just normal breathable material?

Im not after a full on jacket, just something for cold mornings etc that can be worn next to the skin

Ta

GoreBikeWear is your friend. Mine is Windstopper, has a zipped high neck, sometimes wear it with just a gilet. Also available with short sleeves. Have a look here:

Ta, it's not really a base layer I'm after, I guess a long sleeved Jersey type thing?!?

Just to add that it does rather rustle! Windstopper on the front to the bottom edge as well as on the shoulders. Some on the arms on my long sleeved one, the back doesn't have any though. The fabric is very soft on the inside, almost a fleecy feel to it.

Edit: I would say rather more substantial than a base layer. It's kept me warm for sure.

Gore also do Windstopper-fronted jerseys, e.g.

Different idea have a look at either ;
Rab Ventus or Rab Boreas great tops cut the wind out but not too warm when working hard. Can be used within layers brilliant bits of kit.

Sounds like you need a windproof gilet.

I've got a Gore Element wind stopper jacket - very breathable and a good all-round bit of kit.

I've had a look at DHB which is much cheaper than Gore, but currently most of it is black, which is naff all good for riding in lower light conditions in spring / autumn 🙄
