You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've had enough of the winter and am looking for a bit of guaranteed sunny riding, but probably only 3 or 4 days of a week away so I don't want to be in the back end of nowhere. I've had a look at some options from Tenerife and Mallorca but any suggestions would help. Don't want anything too gnarr, typical red grade stuff would be ample.
south hants, but you'll have to be quick; already clouding back over a bit
I was pretty impressed with what I did of the Cami de Cavalls in Menorca - had a few days where I'd cycle a bit and meet my wife at a beach
Fly into majorca and spend some days with sierramtb.. 🙂
Update: Pissing down again - maybe somewhere else after all
...looking for a bit of guaranteed sunny riding
The Canaries can be a bit iffy this time of year through til March. Have been several times over the last few years and although it's better than the UK there are grey leaden days 16-17 degrees with a stiff Northerly breeze. Rarely rains though.
Cheers rovketman, don't think I'll be able to do it before March anyway so hopefully it'd be a bit more reliably sunny by then.
Scaredypants - maybe I should've mentioned the dusty trails too...
Turbomtb - I've been there, done that, didn't buy the t shirt.
Christhetall - were you married before or was this some sort of fitness singles break?
Fly into majorca and spend some days with sierramtb.
Actually Malaga is the airport.
Based right on the beach with plenty of Winter sun to enjoy.
Stunning singletrack rides with plenty of bus uplift during the day & fun après-bike on the coast at night.
Just 520 Euros for a packed week!

Mallorca is getting better for off road riding, I went a couple of years ago and rode from south to north along the tramuntana mountain range. We were guided by Tony from www.tramuntbike.com, they sorted out everything, all accomodation along the route, vans etc. We covered about 30 miles and 6000feet climbing per day for 3 days. They also do pure uplift days, if thats more your thing.
I've also been to bubion in the sierra nevada with switchbacks, www.switch-backs.com. Again great riding, more uplift oriented than the trip I did in mallorca, probably approx 3000fett climbing per day, but really good fun.
I've also been to portugal with the mountain bike adventure, www.themountainbikeadventure.com. Again really good, pure uplift this time , absolutely no pedalling uphill (but I'm sure they'd do less uplift if you wanted), the trails here were probably the most technically difficult, but really improved my riding.
Its hard to say which is best, I enjoyed them all equally, depends on what sort of riding your favour I suppose
Sierra Nevada for me. Been twice in winter and both times, blue skies, amazing trails and really good value. David from www.bikingandalucia.com looked after us - he has a couple of rustic villas you stay in. Based at Orgiva which is a fab town at the foot of the mountains.
Or Darran at Lavatrax in Tenerife. We had a good 4 days there in December a few years ago. Not sure if the weather is as settled as southern spain this time of year tho...
Cheers Alex,
Weather has been remarkable this winter so far. Short sleeve weather all the way even up at 2200m above sea level. A nice 25 degrees at the coast has been the cooler order of the day for the last few weeks.
try la palma island in the canaries, some great biking to be done. often cheaper than the other islands as not so popular. not much night life though, just small local bars or hotel bars
Good thread. Thanks. I'm looking for the same thing.
Plenty to check out here and I was thinking the same things as you.
Went to the Alps last year. The kids loved the uplift and big bouncy bikes but the mixed weather dod not win over the missus.
Will let you know if I find anything else.
We're off to Madeira for half term, and free ride Madeira have been great with sorting us out a single day of riding. Will report more when we get back!
Had a great days riding with Freeride Madeira. Suspect we only scratched the surface, but our guide, Roberto, was excellent, combining tour guiding with mad skills. We did four tracks with a great lunch, the last one included part of the Avalanche race track. Riding through eucalyptus forest on dusty trails having been out in the snow two days before was awesome, whole operation seemed very slick.
Got back from Gran Canaria a week ago. 25 degrees every day. Certainly topped up the sun!
Personally I would go for Mallorca because of the shorter flight times and more varied riding, especially if you are leaving it until March.
www.tramuntbike.com, would be my go to.
