I've noticed this recently, is this the aluminium, showing strain? Is it going to fail dramatically. Is it because I am big boned? I've probably got a mountain bike post the same size, I assume the difference is weight. Any thoughts, the bike has been used indoors more than out, since I got it, couldn't comment on previous owners activities.

and on a different note, [rant]why was it impossible to get the URL of that picture on my tablet. I can share it on bookface, twitter and everything else, but the URL oh no, needed a computer for that. grr [/rant]

No, it's anodizing having been worn off by the strap of a saddle pack or similar. Or your fat thighs.

You will die, but not because of that. The highest point of stress of a seatpost is at the bottom by the clamp, due to the leverage. I'd be amazed if one snapped there.

There's not been anything obviously rubbing there. Including chubby thighs. I agree I looked at the clamp and there's no sign of strain there. It is only on that side too. Wierd.

What tablet? I know how to do it on iOS and android... To be fair on ios I'd need to open the page in atomic web browser, so it'd take me all of about 15 seconds 😉

Good point there may have been a knog there briefly. Although not as long as the saddlepack has been higher up with no rub.

In chrome, long press the pic, open in new tab, then copy paste the URL at your leisure.

Spotty Seatpost - Will I die?

yes but you would be unlucky to have the 2 linked, a spontaneous fail of the seat post would most likely cause a rather unpleasant and jagged cavity search which would be painful but the chances are death are low. Just make sure your post is clean and free of nasty bacteria for the secondary infection risk.

IA unfortunately I cant seem to stop it going into the frankly awful google+ photo app, wont let me look from the browser. In hindsight should've used dropbox.

Reasonably convinced of 2 things; I am mortal and that the seatpost will not directly cause my demise.
