I'm 25, and i'm about to buy my first house.

I race Autograss cars (off road buggy things), i play rugby, go Snowboarding once or twice a year and of course i also have a bit of an appetite for falling off bikes.

The place i work has a decent enough sick pay but i wouldn't want to find myself up a creek without a paddle heaven forbid something serious happened.

So.. Sports insurance, who has it, is it worth it, who's worth insuring with, and do any of you have any first hand experience?

the only time I looked at this it was stupidly expensive - just make sure your mortgage insurance has good injury / critical illness cover

It IS expensive, but if it has to pay out.... depends if you can live without the ~£400 a year it'll cost you for good injury/income protection cover, or you can live without the income you'll lose if you're injured enough.

Some policies have an optional fracture cover, so you get paid a set amount if you break a variety of bones -(amount you'll get depends on the bone you break), it's about £2 extra a month - probably worth having.
E.g. you'll get a payout of £900 if you break a collarbone, or £2100 for a skull fracture or femur... and various things in between.

I have insurance. I resent paying it, because I could waste that money on something else fun... but if I'm broken enough to have to stop working, I can't live on whatever work/government will pay out for a limited time.

The Mrs and I have insurance with www.sportscoverdirect.com but chose not to cover salary as our stick pay is pretty good. It does pay out for things like broken bones etc, lucky we haven't had to claim yet.
