Am I right in saying a 10 speed split link will also fit a 9 speed ?,I've got one & just trying to help a pal
out whose got a broken 9 speed chain for a ride tomorrow !.

10 spd chain is narrower than a 9 spd, so I doubt it would fit.

It will fall apart. As above the 10 speed link is narrower than a 9 speed. The link needs to press tightly again the chain to stay fixed.
