Hey all

Anyone ever serviced a set of these?

My son's Vitus has a set of the 24" ones which are sucking and sticking down and don't seem to be holding air.

The bike came from CRC in 2019 and I've got no faith in getting it resolved amid current circumstances in sensible time. No criticism of CRC implied just with postal and business disruption I can't see it going well.

I'm mechanically competent but would prefer a bit of advance info on whether I might need anything special to do the job.

if theyre anything like the 20 version, they have a non serviceable air cartridge.
however, the cartridge is fairly robust and simple and the 20's are assembled with grease and baggy dust seals so water gets in and turns the grease into glue.
You may have some joy cracking the bolts off the bottom, going to town with the brake cleaner, and reassembling with fox gold/float fluid or slick honey.
The air side bolt can be a pain and spin the air shaft when loosening. in which case you'll need to compress the fork all the way down to bind the air shaft on its bump stop and bind the air shaft so the bolt can come off.

The Polish distributor has various service guides on their facebook page:

I think the spinning air shaft problem is sorted on later models with a hex head on the other end.

Thanks both.

Wet day project for a week or so's time, looks like weather is going to turn this week.

Short term I can borrow the fork out of big brother's bike which he's outgrown.

I had my son's 20" apart last night. Very straightforward. From what you describe, it sounds like the top O ring on the air shaft has gone, which is exactly the issue described on this guide.

Might be worth contacting them to get the spec of that O-ring.

You might also find this thread useful:

I've been fiddling with my son's one as I've been trying to run it at lower pressure. One of the issues is that it uses a coil spring as the negative spring which is too strong for lower pressure, so you start to lose travel.

The thread above also describes switching to an oil bath rather than the factory greased bushings to get it moving more smoothly. I've tried this, and it does seem to have improved things, although I'm a little wary as there are no oil sponges in the top seals.
