Thinking about changing the flip chip on my 650b Enduro to raise the bottom bracket a bit. Is the extra half a degree (65-65.5 degree) going to make it feel a lot steeper or won't I really notice it that much?
didn't notice personally, so switched it back
From my experience you'll notice the BB height change more than the angles.
*not enduro, Did my 29 levo , as I’m using my 27.5 winter wheels, deffo less pedal strikes, but other than that can’t say I’ve noticed anything.
“ Is the extra half a degree (65-65.5 degree) going to make it feel a lot steeper or won’t I really notice it that much?”
I’ve never flipped it on my Levo but my previous bike had three positions, with 0.5 deg angle / 6mm BB height change between each step. Going between the extremes was pretty obvious, made the bike more nervous downhill and more nimble uphill. Really noticed the change in bar height due to raising the BB relative to the bars.
Only going one step was a lot more subtle and that’s the change on the Enduro. More pedal clearance and the quickness into turns from the higher BB and steeper angles. Conversely going the other way does make the bike feel better on steep stuff.
Try it, it’s not difficult to do and is quite enlightening to feel how it changes things.
Will try it tomorrow. Was hoping to notice it in a bit more clearance with the bottom bracket and not really notice the steeper head angle so sounds like that might be the case. Nothing to lose so let's see how it goes.
I was chatting to local shop about the Enduro - they had played with both and settled on the higher setting. Seemed to handle just as good but with less pedal strikes.
