Salt flats ,looks excellent.
really enjoyed this.
fav. moment (paraphrasing):
(off camera): you think there's a woman out there for you?
hairy bike man: bloody hope not, unless she's good at welding.
great characters, great talent. much better than the Anthony Hopkins film!
as for the actual salt flat racing, my comment was it doesn't appeal, it's either a kinda boring straight line or something goes wrong and you're dead. not much in between fun?
how have i never seen the guy on a bike in his swim shorts 'cos he thought his suit was causing drag. and set a record? that is amazing. this guy:

In perhaps the most famous picture in motorcycling, the legendary Rollie Free, wearing only swim trunks and sneakers, broke the world motorcycle land speed record in 1948.
Some great garden shed engineering going on there, the Scottish lot were bordering on professionalism though, with their team shirts etc. 🙂
cracking prog... however i rekon 0-6 for 'records'
The boys that machined their own heads, crank etc - legends. I think it may be making a slightly different noise by the end of the second program but fair play x 1000!
When is the second programme, they never said!
this will be on iplayer right?
Dave the BT guy who has taught himself, makes bits for a mates drag bikes and is pretty well known in the drag racing circles. Wouldnt catch me astride a 1300hp alcohol fuelled motorbike like my mate, mind you.
Thanks Jota, got the RT on my way home, I was a bit worried as they never announced when the next part would be on and they do seem to have a habit of putting things on on consecutive days or chopping things around lately! recorder now set! 😀
Absolutely brilliant, that. Love it.
I actually felt proud to be British.....what a bunch of characters.
Must admit that I'm glad I don't live next door to any of them!
Pt2 on now i think. BBC HD
ah so British. no one made the time they wanted, but everyone was glad they went and hoping to try again next time 🙂
the guy trying to make his speed run with serious gut problems.. massive constipation basically? just wow.
Felt for the guys with the seized supercharger early on but it was probably a result of their belt installation. 🙁

Ironic that it was the only part that they hadn't made themselves...
Had a little look up on the belt thing and am probably wrong. Horrible that it failed after going all that distance. Would have been good to see these run up on the dyno before they made the trip.
Thought the comment that people in general no longer make things was a sad reflection on British engineering heritage.
Obviously, like the guys on the show, every member of the STW massive can hand-craft a seatpost from an old coke can !
Did read an american book called "The case for working with our hands" that championed good old fashioned manual skills. And incidentally, the satisfaction gained from actually creating something.
