Thinking of going up for a look see. Any tips on where to watch, ease of getting to the stages etc? Take my bike or walk? Is it midge time? Where to eat? Where to park? Maps to use to locate stages?

Maps are released the week before the event, until then it's hard to know, but you would probably assume Glentress and the Golfie would get a look in as trail locations, good bike access to most stages last year, park in Peebles and ride I reckon, you can find some other trails to ride at the same time. Peebles was rammed over the weekend last year, but we managed to find places to eat each night with space, failing that, the chippie on the high street is ace.

Cheers ivnickkate, seen all that. Will give the post a Bump when the course maps are released on the 24th. Was thinking of going up on Friday the 29th for practice and a look at the Expo village. Where do I find you for maps?

Maps will be available from the Expo area, although I'm hoping they go for a smaller format this year.

If you want to spectate, I'd say take your bike and a lock. Some of the better viewing points will be a good bit from parking, so pedal up, lock it to a tree (saves dragging it up/down the side of a track with you!) and walk up/down to get to the good bits. That way you should be able to catch the same riders on 2 or 3 different tracks if you want.

1 Take your bike
2 No midges
3 Cafe's in Innerleithen, Peebles, Walkerburn, GT
4 Park elsewhere, and ride in
5 Maps will be issued

Last year I spectated at Inners (rode over from Selkirk via the SUW). Could've just as easy ridden to see the other stages.

We just rode around a bit last year, watched a bit then went for a ride, was good fun. People were just leaving biked at the bottom of sections but a lock is a good idea, there are a lot of serious bike thieves around now. Could well be midges if weather is still but was OK last year.

watch out when you are spectating

I had a big crash on the final stage at glentress and scarily my bike landed a meter away from some young kids, through the pain I was quite worried!

br, park elsewhere and walk in. I'm from the Calderdale area in deepest West Yorkshire so don't have a clue where to park 🙄 Will take a lock as I quite like my bike Ta.

Hi dhd, the expo village is on tweed green, which is between Peebles High Street and the river tweed. Event HQ will be down there somewhere and we can help out with directions etc. There's 4 car parks in the town, some are signposted. I'll be the harassed looking bloke cleaning toilets/ emptying bins/ general dogsbody whilst been being advised by Mrs Ivnickkate. 🙂 Where are you staying?

given the mud currently on the ground unless it dries up I'm predicting a very good result for Joe Barnes

lots of good places for breakfast from the cheapness of wetherspoons, ( the cross keys ) to the Tontine hotel in the high street, dearer but quality food with top racers for company, best to book for this option. As I said earlier pop down to the expo village for maps and directions..

I'm going down to watch again this year on Friday. Can't wait. Except this year we are going to the after party on Sunday & riding the day 1 course on the EWS extra day on Monday. Not quite sure how I'm going to do that after a big night before hand, and even less fit than I was last year!

You could park in Peebles either day, but it's a fair way to (ride) to the stages on Saturday. Innerleithen would be the best place to park on Saturday and either Peebles or Glentress on the Sunday.

You could then walk to Stage 1 and see the fast boys, then nip over to Stage 4. Although it'd be easier with a bike.

Sunday could be just as easy to park in Peebles and walk to the bottom of the stages on that side of GT.

The number 62 purple bus stops right outside Glentress, and is not far from the trailhead at Innerleithen.
