I grazed the sidewall of a new tyre today.  Went to stick a patch on the inside and whilst waiting for the glue to go off I noticed there was a blue edged patch in the Rema patch kit.  Its thicker and according to the instructions, its for sticking inside tubeless tyres.

It was the only one in the kit  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REMA-TIP-TOP-TT-05-MOUNTAIN-BIKE-PUNCTURE-REPAIR-KIT-PATCHES-BICYCLE-INNER-TUBE/152276639190?hash=item2374651dd6:g:8m4AAOSw9GhYeOG9

I'm struggling to find more patches (I already have loads of glue and regular inner tube patches so would rather just buy the patches on their own).

I can buy the Rema kit above again which is £4 and includes just one patch, or I can get the Velox Tubeless Repair Kit which is £10 once postage is added, and includes 1 large and 3 small patches.  There is another Rema kit with 3 tubeless patches but it only comes up on US ebay (Rema 5060160).

Has anyone tried using the Rema generic patches for car tyres? UP3 (27mm square) and UP4.5 (37mm square) are the smallest and you can get 24 patches for £8 and £12.  Not sure if they will be flexible enough as they are designed for the tread area of car tyres, anyone tried it?

That Rema kit won’t work ont tubeless tyres as it uses a vulcanising rubber solvent for inner tubes that don’t work on tyres. Rema do have a complete tubeless repair kit though

Thanks Tracey, I'll look them up.

Roter Stern, what makes you think vulcanising solution doesn't work on tyres?  I know there is a blue variant which is heavy duty and is often used for tubeless patches.

I've used inner tube patches and their glue on inside of tyres no problem. Used to have a dedicated kit for tubeless but ran out and then realised they're not much different to inner tube patches so gave them a go and worked.

In my opinion they don't need to stick as firmly as with a tube, as sealant does the rest of the job, plus the tyre isn't stretching as much as a tube.

I have gone with motor bike repair patches and used this glue (in a smaller tube) ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rema-Tip-Top-Special-Cement-SC-BL-cold-vulcanizing-repairs-Tire-Repair-5159365-/322241661990)   . So far so good - no issues. I have been tempted to use the mushrooms as well but not got around to it yet.

For small holes I just use normal patches and normal tyre vulcanising goop, works a charm. For big holes I have some mushrooms that I really bought for the motorbike but never used, they're pretty fab tbh

Spooky_b329, just for your info my use of a load of vulcanising solution (blue) , a normal inner tube repair patch, a piece of gorilla tape and a some choice swear words  that fixed my slashed sidewall at CwmCarn is still holding... 😉

Muddyarse Guy, I feel it's important to remember the valiant efforts of my slime filled inner tube, the 4" square massive patch, how your 'double action' pump is rubbish at inflating tyres but really good at making your arms ache, the missing tubeless valve and the 'this is my only gas cartridge' final attempt followed by a top up from a donor pump! I'm just impressed none of it got launched into the woods 🙂

I found a seller offering small quantities of the Rema UP3 and UP4.5 patches so will give them a go, the damage I normally get is grazed sidewalls so I'd need one of the larger mushroom patches for coverage, but I don't really want to be spiking a 4 or 6mm hole through an otherwise intact sidewall, especially as this one was a 40c Nano so not the biggest tyre.

I have a bodged repair (like Guy above) on my singlespeed that has held for the last couple of years so will put one to the test when they arrive.

It wasn't on the wall - it was before we got to Afan 😉

Dragging this thread up from the depths.

I've also grazed the sidewall in a new tyre. Unfortunately complicated by two grazes close together (5mm ish) and having to plug them with anchovies. I'm not convinced that mushrooms will work in this situation. Has anyone used them so that the second overlaps the first?
