I saw a few posts earlier in the year about Spesh changing their selling and service model, with one of the local long established dealers, Dales, losing the dealership.

Right enough, noticed earlier that my 2 Spesh ebikes are needing a software update ( both in warranty) and Dales have confirmed they can’t do it anymore.

Booked them into Alpine at Tiso week Monday, can’t help but feel a bit sad around the Dales position, very much end of an era..

End of an era indeed. I bought my first decent mountain bike there in 1991 - a Specialized Stumpjumper Comp. Loved that bike.

Yeah, it's sad to see the networks being shrunk the way they are, probably due to someone at HQ having the great idea of eeking out another 1 or 2% margin on the bikes in the short term.

Reality is, places like Dales will just focus on brands like Cube, Orbea, etc who have good ranges and are challenging specialized across the range, a lot of folk like buying a bike from a store and having that support through warranty, for everyone on here who can strip and rebuild a bike every few months, there's 20 people who would struggle to straighten the bars correctly on a bike that's come out of a box.

Aye, seems odd mind you. Never used Alpine since Dave’s days at St George’s X, so fingers crossed for ongoing warranty support and servicing.

Very true! Mate of mine who has ridden bikes for years recently proudly posted a pic on fb of his new ebike. I had to point out that his forks were back to front. "But that's how it came out of the box, they should have known when they packed it". I had to explain how much warehouse space could be saved by packing them that way in shorter boxes...

Shame for Dales, they're a proper bike shop. Great service and advice.

^^^^ totally agree, I have bought I think 10 bikes from them over the years, incl my current Giant Fathom and the 2 ebikes (Levo SL and Creo). Always had great service and good deals and never had to wait more than 2 days for a workshop space.

I also have a couple of newish Cannondales from Bilslands and again, great, local proper bike shop service, shame they don’t do Spesh either !

Hopefully you get sorted out quickly.

You won't go wrong with the guys in Alpine, top notch service and always happy to help plus they have a decent range in store. Bought tons of bikes from them over the years, bought my specialized from them last year and they were great.

I had Specialized bikes in the past from Dales and they were always difficult to deal with when it came to warranty/service work and resulted in me having to contact Specialized UK directly to resolve on one occasion. Have heard that the management changed hands recently so hopefully the customer service at Dales has improved in that respect.

Still the same family business - different family member in charge for the past few years though.

Debbie ?.

Im actually on a lifetime ban from Dales 😆 I bought a lid during their sale that was in the wrong box. they said i deliberately took advantage of the fact. In my defence i was new to cycling and it was during their big sale when many things were mixed up. Because I refused to pay the difference some weeks later they banned me.

Debbie served me on that transaction, and I might have also got a little argumentative during discussions on it.

😆

Up until that point I bought a fair bit off them. All kit, a couple of bikes, bags, clothing etc.
