At least I think that's what it is.
There is a slight rattle and I've isolated it to the top where the shock is mounted to the linkage/pivot. I assume there is just bushing inside (or bearings?) that wears out.
Is it a simple job to replace or is it a LBS job. All the other bearings are fine and I'd like to get this fixed before it damages anything else.
If it is easy to do yourself how do I find the ride bit? Is it shock or frame related?
What model year is it? Have you tried tightening the bolt up and using a bit of Loctite? According to my LBS the bolt itself, on mine anyway, is part of a specific `bolt kit'.
If it's the actual shock bushing, then it's cheap and easy to replace. If it's the reducers, then it's a bit more pricey but still easy to do once you have the bits. What year frame?
Piece of cake to do the job on a 2007 just need bearings and allen keys. As already said the bolts are specific, my mate found out on his stumpy as it came loose and he lost one. LBS ordered one for him. His problem would have been sorted if he had looked when he first got a little rattle and play.
I am just about to do mine, never done it before but looks easy. Good guide here. Bushes can be got from Mojo or BETD who also do tools to replace them. I will probably just use sockets and a vice. Ther is a guy on ebay doing a cheaper tool here and cheaper bushes here, no idea of his quality and doesnt seem to do reducers if you need them.
While on the subject does anyone have any experience of upgrading to needle roller bearings? Is it worth the extra? I reckon I could source them cheap from a local bearing factor.
I found the gentle use of a blow torch made the job a lot easier. I did mine (Spesh Epic)with some specialist equipment.......a hammer and an old set of sockets!
I just fitted the BETD plastic bush and their stainless reducers to my Anthem X last night. I splashed out on the BETD tool and it was well worth it. Last time I had to get a Fox bushing out I ended up using all sorts of brutality - hammers, files, hacksaws... The tool just makes it easy, and rather less worrying.
