The rear wheel on my 2008 singlecross has seized solid - poor maintenance on my part. I took it apart for repair but the cones are pitted terribly.

It seems a shame to throw the wheel away as it is otherwise in good condition.

Any idea where I can replacement cones (or an axle set) from - or any pointers?

A quick google suggests the hubs may be made by another company.

I have contacted Specialized UK.

Any help appreciated

M

The rear wheel off mine is waiting for my next trip to the recycling centre. Remains of freewheel stuck on one side of the hub, rim alarmingly worn and it was running pretty rough before I retired it.

If you like I can take the axle out, have a look at the cones and assuming there's some life in them send you the axle assembly in return for you buying STW a pint.

Should be fairly standard 10mm cones, a chap in the far east called Mr. Quando pretty much makes any hub that doesn't have Shimano written on it. Try an LBS, take the old ones with you for a match up, Wheels Manufacturing make some high quality ones, about £5 each.

DJC - yes please. - can you send me an e-mail, cant find one on your profile.
Ziggy - thanks, not easy to get all the right info to find a match. Especially with my inability to measure stuff.

For anyone that maybe interested, a set of cones from a standard Weldtite replacement axle fitted fine (10.0 x 175mm Chrome Moly Axle.)

However, I did have to use an assortment of washers to get the width right.
