Which out of these 2 bikes would you buy and is there any real difference between then apart from the name as the specs are pretty similar??

If you'd choose one over the other what would your reasons be apart from price.

I’ve a sequoia and really like it. It’s different to the arkose in that it’s a steel frame, pinnacle is alu

with all the issues around Evans at the moment, I wouldn’t be putting any money their way until it’s clear what is happening

Have you seen this?

you could get an extra set of 700c wheels and still only spend around a grand.

Yes, realise the Evans situation ... if I was to go that route I'd only do it as and when they were back in stock and wouldn't pay for it until I collected so not too concerned about that.

What's the difference between Alu and Steel ... I've heard generally steels as a nicer softer ride but at the cost of extra weight but couldn't find a weight for the Seq anywhere to compare ... any other advantages / disadvantages you know of one vs the other??

If anyone's any good at interpreting geometry, I'm in the situation that I'll still go over gravel and am using a 29er at the moment but doing more and more road mileage so looking for a bike that's more road orientated but that can still handle gravel rather than one that's more gravel orientated but can handle road if that makes sense.

The geometry for the Specialized is further down this page

The geometry for the Arkose is here

@jonnyboi

Without boring you with the detail a 1 x 11 isn't right for me at the moment .... I also saw a comment from a seller of them on e-bay saying they can't source spare parts for some of their bikes which I was a bit concerned about.

Sequoia looks lovely I nearly had one. Till I discovered it was the weight of a Sherman tank !!

Aluminium frames used to feel harsh but they can be made to feel anyway now with hydroformed profiles.

My new 'gravel bike' (God I hate that marketing gimmick name!) is a steel frame though.

My issue with aluminium is that it will fatigue even with low amplitude stress cycles.

Steel won't.

Did you actually find a weight for it somewhere??

EDIT: Found it in a review 11.71kg

It’s no feather weight (I’d weigh mine, but it’s got all manner of frame bags and stuff attached to it, and CBA to remove it all.)

it feels nice to ride, kind of like an old school steel mtb, certainly feels loads better than the Alu trek it replaced.

dead on, I picked 2x11 for mine because I wanted it multi purpose for road use as well but honestly thought I was in the minority 🙂

You should look at the Diverge then not the Sequoia as th Sequoia is more a bikepacking/tourer.

Think I've decided with some more research and reviews it's possibly to "in between" for what I'm ideally looking for at the moment.

The Diverge was the 1st that caught my eye and would be perfect but max tyre clearance is limited to 38mm unless I want to jump to a full carbon which is quite a bit more money (found the Seq on offer at £1198 in my size)

Cheers all and thanks for the responses.

38mm seems to have been fine for me, I think if you want bigger then the Diverge is not the answer but the bikes that take bigger tyres might not be either...
