I would like to tap into the font of knowledge for some upgrade advice if you would please.

I really like my pitch, as I am sure many of you did, maybe still do.

I would like to show it some love and maybe make some upgrades for this year.

Its my big bike, I use it for big days out, events, uplifts and the alps once a year.

So I’m asking past and present owners, what the best changes you made to yours were.

Primarily bouncy bits front and back I would have thought. (1 1/8th head tube remember)

But I’m up for any recommendations.

Cheers.

Works do a slackset for 1 1/8 heasets. I have one in my old BFe, just a degree, but makes a difference.

Offset bushings?

Coil shock?

Wider bars?

I whacked an offset bushing on the bottom of my shock mount and a a needle bearing on the top

also running 750 bars which helped. I actually didn't like the shorter stem. Tried 35 and 50 but settled on 75 as i need the reach

I had offset bushings in mine and I really liked it.  But jumping onto my next bike with bigger wheels, carbon, better suspension and updated geometry really showed up the Pitch if I'm honest.  It was like night and day.

Bikes have come on a lot in the 10 years since the pitch was introduced.

The trouble with upgrading for you will be your non tapered head tube.

Upgrading forks isn't going to be cheap.  If it was me I'd sell it and spend a bit more (not a lot more than buying new forks etc) on a second hand Enduro 29/650b etc which are available for about £1k for base spec ones.

Check the welds around the bike before spending too much....

I'd also be wary about spending a significant amount of cash on it, what does drivetrain, suspension service and a bit more get you used?

I liked mine....but the best upgrade was a Capra!

.........sorry, that was a very STW post!

in all seriousness though. I sold mine for about £700 a couple of years ago. it was in ok condition. Put another £1000 to it and bought a capra. the difference in how much bike shave come was amazing. I would probably do the same rather then spend money on the pitch. You will have more fun on a new (modern / 'enduro') bike....especially at uplift days and in the alps.

That Pitch does indeed look like a bike from Essex. 🙂

Lyrics and a RC4 coil shock on my first one, lyrics and a CC Inline on the last one. Wider bars are a must. Great bike and just a pity about the head tube sizing.

I stuck a set of 160mm marzocchi 55Rs on mine and it made a big difference. But that was a couple of years ago and they don't seem to make them any more.

Also replaced the rear shock with a Monarch Plus RC3 a while back which felt like a fairly big improvement.

And a dropper post.
