I have an old knee injury that has started playing up again and i think it's from my new shoes.
I'm getting a pain on the inside of my knee just below the kneecap.
I'm going to try a set of decent footbeds to see if this will solve the problem, but i was just wondering what peoples opinions on the Specialized and Superfeet beds were?
Thanks
I use superfeet in my cycling shoes as I have somewhat dodgy feet. I also booked a session with Mike Veal at bikedymanics in Coventry and using video analysis, fitted in the shoe shims and cleat wedges to sort out my knee alighment. Feet feel better, knees feel better and speed/strength has increased.
sounds like good advice.
i can reccomend superfeet, but if you are having painful rides then getting an expert to look at it is a good way to go.
I use super feet in my walking boots, and would recommend them for that purpose but they were also recommend on here for cycling (my current boot insole is fine so haven't tried them).
If you do buy then, go and get a pair fitted, don't buy then going by your shose size. Both my g/f and myself had them fitted and they were the next size up, and you cut them down to fit you shoes.
Thanks for the advice guys. Which colour Superfeet footbeds are you using?
Seeing a professional would be great, but i really can't afford it at the moment.
I injured my knee about 6 years ago and again 18 months ago in a big DH crash, after it healing both times i've had very little trouble with it since (the odd twinge now and again). But since i bought new shoes i've been getting twinges more on short rides and on saturday full blown pain on an all day epic.
So i thought i'd try the footbeds first.
Cheers
I have the blue but the g/f the green , so again getting them fitted in a shop was totally worthwhile - lot better than buying the wrong one becuase it was cheaper on the net.. 😀
Cheers,
i'm off to my local walking shop this afternoon to get them fitted.
oh and they have some sort of guaranteed return policy to the maufacturer if your not satisfied IIRC
I have Spec' cycling shoes.
Their insoles are more than good enough.
I have tried Superfeet instead this year and went back to Spec, although all my walking boots have Superfeet to great effect.
Can I suggest you check the collar on your seat post? Maybe move your saddle a little and see if that helped more? Perhaps your seat post has slipped ever so slightly?
Ensure that you feet are not forced inwards / outwards even by 5 degrees with clip-in pedals - take your cleats off, and then re-fit & it might make a difference, it did for me 3 weeks ago.
Are you clipped in? Before spending any money, if might be worth trying raising the height of your saddle slightly or moving your cleats (I think you would need to point your toes in a touch - google knee pain in cycling and it'll tell you which way to move it). The new shoes might have thicker/thinner soles affecting saddle height or you may have put the cleats on differently.
The position on the bike is ok and so are the cleats. I'm clipped in which I'm not really used to. Using Crank Brothers Candy pedals, from what I've heard they're a good choice for people with knee trouble due to the float they have.
