I've always had fivetens, no real issues with them but I can't be spending £130 right now but my current impact pro are falling apart, peeling off the bases and the upper material is disintegrating rapidly. Tredz have sent a tenner off voucher and seem to have a few varieties of the specialized shoes on offer so I'm wondering how they compare grip wise? In particular the rime or the DH variety? Sizing true?
The grip is like original 5:10 grip, picking your feet up to move, almost like being clipped in.
Amazing shoes in all ways compared to contemporary 5:10s
You need a Go Outdoors membership, they're always selling discounted FiveTens. Or find a student who can get 30% discount on the Adidas website.
I've got some Giro Jacket shoes which I really like. They don't have the ultimate grip but they're very comfortable. I might have Giro shaped feet because I keep wearing them over my FiveTens even though the soles are trashed.
Or a member of staff who therefore has a university email address...Fivetens are excluded from all promo discounts and vouchers so good idea but nope!
Up until 18 months or so ago I would have only considered 5-10s, then I tried the new Specialized shoes & they have been great.
The uppers have lasted way better than the above, they dry out quickly, they are lighter, just as grippy as the the most sticky stealth rubber & the soles last.
I would say they are an all round better shoe.
Myself and my wife have only ever run 5-10’s for years due to grip being the no1 priority on flats, but we took a punt a few months ago on some spesh flat pedal shoes for my wife. She’s very happy with them - really good grip (close to if not equal to 5-10 grip), seem well made (not used them for long enough to really talk about durability). Come up a bit narrower than impacts, but comfy. Says they’re a bit colder than impacts, but I guess that’s what sealskin or dexshell socks are for. Worth a go I’d say if you can get them cheaper than 5-10’s.
I’ve got a pair of Specialised flats, I find them super comfy and grippy. I find 5-10 too flat, the spesh ones have a little more heel lift?
Castle Douglas Cycles had 50% of giro shoes i can see what's there when I go in to get my new bike if you want
Love my 2FO DH. Had them three years and still wearing well. Prefer them to my old Sam Hills that they replaced. Same grip level but lighter and dry far quicker.
After getting my first 2FO Roosts I ended selling my 5.10 Impacts and binning my old Freeriders. Now just have a pair of Roosts and a pair of DHs.
Agree about the Giro Jackets. I bought a pair when they were very cheap, partly to save my 5-10s for more gnarly stuff but I have ended up wearing them all the time. For my feet they are just more comfortable if not as grippy. They also seem to be lasting longer than previous shoes of various brands.
Went from 5:10 to Spesh 2F0 about 9mths ago and haven’t looked back. Way better then the Freerider pros they replaced. Lighted, grippier, better looking… Do it.
I was in the Specialized Concept Store in Harrogate last week and they had some hefty discounts on some shoes, think the Roost flats were £70
The previous 2fo were awful compared to 5-10, got the scars to prove it as they were just not as grippy. If you are a small size 10 you can have them

Very different to the current ones.

Sigma, Tredz and a few others also had them very cheap recently
Merlin have some ride concepts live wire MTB shoes for £55 mens and £50 for women's, and ride concepts vice for £50
No idea of the grip level but look decent enough.
Also Giro Riddance for £65
Giro latch worth a look £78 at tweeks, not a good fit for wide feet though, sizing up advised.
what is sizing like on the 2f0's
i am a 9 in 5-10 and a 43 in northwave but looks like the 2f0's are either 8.5 (43) or 9.5(44)
If you like the Impact Pro, see if you can pick up any Ride Concepts Hellion in the sales.
I got some for about £50 from Tredz and they are awesome - lots of grip and similar in feel to the Impact Pro IMO.
Go up a full size.
Cheers all seems like a resounding yes by all accounts. I'm after grip levels of fiveten, anything else is just a plus.
@mashr is there much difference between the DH or the roosts? Which pair do you prefer or much of a muchness between the two?
Also echo the 'whats the sizing like' on them request?

Probably prefer the DH version, but not a huge amount in it really. They seem a bit stiffer, which will be because the upper is more hefty that the Roosts, and I think I just prefer that as I've been using Impacts for many, many years. Both dry out easily enough and neither are sponges like Impacts anyway. Grip levels are the same as the sole is the same on both types
As above - I'm on my third pair now, I switch and swap with 5.10 impact pros. Currently have 2FO roosts as they were going cheap.
5.10s Impact Pros last longer, have thicker and stiffer soles, and provide more protection around the foot.
previous generation of 2FOs were light and quick to dry, but soles not as grippy and they chewed up within months on DMR vaults with long pins. Somewhat weird shape, they look like interchangeable left and right shoes from above, but comfy enough on the feet (and I have wide feet). Sole is less stiff, but not as felty as free riders.
The new sole seems perfect, let's see if it holds up as well as 5.10s.
