Does anyone have any experience with the Epic 'brain', especially the 2021 version? is the knock particularly noticeable/annoying, i like a quiet bike, or do you soon forget about it?
Considering the Spesh or a Mondraker f-podium. not sure im so keen on the birds nest of cables at the front of the Mondraker though, although its not an absolute deal breaker.
My 2010 Stumpjumper FSR has the brain shock.
I've never noticed any knock from it, although the one I test rode 6 months prior had a distinct klunk. This wasn't really heard though, but felt through the frame.
is the knock particularly noticeable/annoying
It's still there and worse than previous models I've tried. Doesn't make a noise, but can be felt. I'd liken the sensation to play in really knackered pivots or shock bushings. Having ridden both I don't think there's a loss in efficiency going for the Evo model, no Brain but still pedals very well.
Riding a 2020 epicevo with the brain. Yes there is a noticeable clunk if you have the compression set to firm. You can dial it back to a softer setting, and it becomes less/not noticeable the softer you go. You get used to it after a while and it does not spoil the ride.
no experience of the mondraker, but absolutely love the epic.
In a world of constrained supply I'd be avoiding anything proprietary like a Brain. Sweamrs was the unlucky owner of an earlier generation and we got through them at a fantastic rate.. Even if the new one is more reliable you're still restricted.
