My Specialized Epic Evo is coming up to its 1st Bearing service, probably March time before I do. This would mean I’ve had the bike for 17 months which for me is a long time.
But I love how it rides and upgraded it way beyond the original spec and purpose, and I don’t think I can part with it. Plus I don’t have another 3k for a new bike.
So I was thinking of 'Rawing' it, as to me would breathe new life in to it. Especially seeing a thread on here not too long ago (I always fancy a change)
I think it would make more sense for me to pull the bearings out then go to a power coaters and get them to dip it, or any other way for them to strip all the paint.
Then get a bike shop to put the new bearings in? Or can I do this and what tool do I need?
My only question is really, what tools and bearings do I need? And will a specialized dealer do the job if I have rawed a frame. Even though that question may not even count as I could do it myself.
Background to the bike:
Front and rear shocks already serviced
I have had the seals off the bearings and cleaned and packed grease. Still not perfect.
Any help with the tools and bearing would be very helpful!
Thanks
IIRC al spesh bearings are broadly the same these days (different sizes but same basic setup). Which means it's either a shop job or buy yourself a blind bearing puller with the correctly sized addapters, looked at buying one for my Pitch for when it needs doing and it was in the region of £120 for bearigns + puller.
Apparently spesh dealers have a selection of tools that make the job easy, but the cost was still in the region of £100.
Let me know how you get on.
