Been to my local specialized shop today. I'm having a new work bike but can't deside on the 2 named bikes.
I've never had a steel bike before and in flesh the Sequoia looks bullet proof.
The diverge is nice & light.
I've got 3 other road bikes for club rides.
How long is the commute, over what terrain and how much stuff do you need to carry?
I've got a Sequoia Elite. It's a great bike but if all you're doing is a few miles to work and back on the road, it'll be total overkill. But it'll do the job.
A Diverge will be faster and will still carry the kit you need but doesn't have the off road or huge load capability the Sequoia has.
18 mile round trip.
Topeak pannier rack with 22litre topeak bag for overauls and lunch box. I've already got 2 road bikes and a hardtail mountain bike.
Diverge then, or just use one of your other bikes if they will take a rack.
I have the diverge, but if the Sequoia had been released I'd have gone with that.
Agree that if all you are doing is road then the diverge will be perfect. I hack mine down 7 miles of rough trailway and whilst the 32c tyres make it feel ok, the Sequoia would be a better fit.
i hate to be that person, but for an 18 mile round trip commute, neither, you don't need a rugged adventure bike for that
if it has to be a Specialized then a Sirrus, get one of the blingy carbon framed ones if you must
but don't let me stop you, the Diverge is a real fun bike that might just nudge you to further adventures away from just the way to work
JoB is correct.
