I have an unused rockhopper probably 25 year old same age as one of my kids, do I stick it back in the body bag for another twenty years or try to sell it?
Tough one. Some of the range around that time were great bikes, but the Rockhopper will always suffer from being the 'budget' model when it comes to value. Clean Stumpjumpers from that era go for decent money, though.
It's unlikely to be worth much, who knows re the future.
If you have the space keep it.
(I'd love an 87 Comp but am trying to de clutter)
Ride it.
Just how much is any bike worth after 50 years or 25 years ?
If you like it keep it. It's probably never going to be worth as much as the space it takes up.
sell it. or ride it.
bikes are for riding.

You talking about the bike or the kid?
Depends on what you think its worth and what it means to you
Ive got a well used 1992 Specialized Hardrock Ultra, paid £50 for it 8 years ago
Still sat in the garage and gets used occasionally, sometimes i list it on eBay for £100 when its a max £1 selling fee promotion, not fussed if it sells or not
Maybe do something the same, if it dosent sell you haven't lost anything, if it does sell then you got what you wanted for it
Thats it exactly, what is it worth? All my bikes are 26" wheels and still have Cannondales, Marin, Kona so no need to ride it but this Specialized hasn't tasted dirt at all. Maybe a museum might get it at some point or a trendy bike shop selling Specialized, just wish it was a Mk1 Twin cam Escort
if its that old but unused, then the value can only really go up. As its only a rockhopper which was quite common its probably not that collectable so won't go up by much over the next ten years. So it really comes down to how much you value the space it is taking up.
Sell it or use it now.
The "Put it on ebay when it's cheap to list for more than it's worth" is fine for ebay's business model, but not much else.
