Whats happened to the Captain Control 2.2 in 26er size? I don't seem to be able to find one anywhere, has it been discontinued?

What's the next best thing for about the same price?

thanks

Discontinued or at least, not imported 🙁 Nearest equivalent I can find is an ardent but they're crap in comparison

Superb tyres. Glad I bought four when I did.

Loved The Captain on the rear. Couldn't find any last time I looked so went for a Rock Razor instead. Pretty decent alternative in the dry.

I think Spesh started to push the Ground Control as their rear tyre of choice. Not seen any Captains around in shops for a while now.

I found the Sauserwind was better on the back than the Captain, but you can't seem to get that either.

As above - Ground Control seems to be the one to have.

I've just bought a pair for front & back duties on my Inbred. Not ridden them yet though.

Depends what you want it for tbh, I gather the captain was a bit of a failure as an xc race tyre? But inadvertantly a brilliant fast trailbike tyre. Whereas I really didn't like the sausagewind but I was trying to get it to do something it wasn't good at.

I used to run Captains front and back for general mile munching XC rides as they came stock on my last new bike. I never really liked them to be honest. The front would wash out in any remotely damp conditions and likewise, the rear disconcertingly struggled for grip quite often on anything that wasn't a fire road or trail centre hardpack.

OP - I'm currently running a Ground Control on the rear and find it just as fast as the Captain but much more grippy and controlled on damp and loose stuff. I'd give one a try if you can't track down a Captain.

I'm looking for something to go on the back of my Inbred. I've used one in the past, in fact I have one in my pile of old tyres (close to little tread left). Looking through the others I have, it was the only tyre I liked out back.

The local trails have a variety of surfaces, last year I bought a Maxxis Beaver. Great in the mud but I found it too draggy. I'm not too bothered about mud performance.

How big does the Ground control tyres come out? I'll be using a Geax Gorma on the front which is a 2.25 tyre (measure 2.25).
