How's the profile of specialized 2.3 tyres on a wideish rim? looking at butcher/hillbilly on a 33mm ID rim. Do theses end up flat across the tread with sidewall poking out past the side knobs?

Got a Hillbilly on a 30mm internal, looks mahoosive in a good way. Seems to fit fine.

Specialized's own Roval wheels are fairly wide (over 25mm iirc).

A 2.0 looks really wrong at that width but the 2.3 butcher/ 2.2 captain combo I run looks good. Nice and chunky.

2.3 Slaughter on Hope 35w looks ok.

2.6 Hillbilly on Hope 35w looks bigger.

2.6 Butcher on Hope 35w bigger still.

2.6 DHF on  Hope 35w bastard massive.

The '2.6' Butcher only measures 2.4 on my 30mm ID rims.

2.3 Slaughter on 30mm ones here, pretty decent profile.

Way better than my mate's Minion SS on an Arch mk3, which is practically flat

Running a 2.3 Butcher control up front on a mk3 Stans Flow.

Profile is pretty much spot on.

Bit of a thread resurrection as I’ve just put some Arch Mk3 rims (26mm internal / 29mm external) on my 2017 Transition Scout. I’ve got a 2.3” Hillbilly up front and a similar width Eliminator on the rear - both Grid spec.

I’d previously had a Butcher/Eliminator setup on much narrower rims and riding the new wheels the other day, I really felt like there was a bit of understeer on the front and came off a couple of times on some slippery / rooty singletrack lines.

Most of that’s probably down to gaping holes in my ability riding technical stuff, but I’m wondering about tyre pressures? I had 22psi in the front and it did feel pretty firm - is it likely I need to drop it a bit? The bike and I aren’t the lightest of things...

Any advice greatly appreciated!
