They seem like a good tyre for a good price, any thoughts on these? Are they any good?
£27 online, will be using them with arch ex rims on the rear.

Got the 2.0s on 35mm rims, woodsy Chilterns winter riding says they're the best I've used so far, had Maxxis Medusa 1.8s (good but lacking volume, was used on a 25mm rim) and Beaver 2.0 (on the 35mms, not so impressed) before. Better than the Beavers on both the rooty bits as well as the slop. Come up a bit bigger also. Only go on in the real depths though as Purgatorys are a better all-round winter tyre.
imo Specialized tyres are impressive these days. Good value, 2bliss pops on easily. Not the toughest but there's plenty of other options if you need stiffer casings.

I've used them for the past 2 winters, really rate them.

Sidewalls aren't the strongest, I have ripped the rear (small tear didn't puncture but think I would have done if left unchecked, the tube was just starting to poke out) but will be buying another to replace it in the next couple of weeks, persevering with the buthcer/purgatory combo on there at the moment.

I use an s-works version on the front over winter and it works very well in the loamy woody areas that I ride. Loads of grip and I feel confident to push it into corners.

Rate not hate, they're very good winter/mud tyres, that's why I've used them for 2 winters so far.

S-works versions are only £20 right now. Good tyres after the first few rides, punctured riding the Dunkeld DH track on them - strange that.

Defo tempted to try n tubeless them

What's the difference between the s-works and the standard, can't seem to find the answer in the blurb on the specialized website?

Is the S-works version tubeless? It didn't used to be.

I really liked them for the Chilterns and other muddy singletrack, now use purgatorys as they're more all round, no mud tyres (IME) ever works particulalry well once the ground dries out but the Storms did reasnobly well.

s-works is the lightest and most fragile casing. Control is the mid-weight casing and good enough for most things. Grid is the heavy-weight one.

Control is light enough imo and gives a reasonably durable tyre.

Fitted some a few weeks ago for winter riding around the Chilterns. It gets pretty muddy / gloopy around here. So far so good. They seem to work well and tubeless setup was pretty easy. I wouldn't use them as a general purpose tyre but thats not what they are meant for. Should work well over the winter months though.

Strange really , like the Bonty Mud-X the Storm is a great 26" winter tyre that is crap as a 29er . So IME it really depends on the wheelsize .

Yup, although in comparing the S-works Storm (which I may have ordered by mistake.....) to a Control Purgatory there's exactly a lot in it!

Regarding ripped sidewalls, Specialised do a 'grid' version of most of their tyres which address this.

I've been riding Purgatory Control front / Purgatory Grid rear all this year on some very rocky trails in Italy / Switzerland and have yet to have a problem.

Yeah,
Love Storms.
Currently using S-works on 29er rigid.
Set up tubeless easily on Crest rims, very predictable when riding as well.
Also used Mud x on my old 26ers.
Did the other person who didn't like them in 29er drop the pressure?
Found a drop in 5psi from 26 to 29 made all the difference in a Racing Ralph I tried.
Thanx,
Max

Good mud tyres, good price. Went on tubeless easily first time, bit of a battle for this year (2nd fitting) but the compressor won 🙂

In retrospect I should have bought Purgatorys as a bit more of an all rounder though - the Storms are draggy on road and fire road, and I try and keep out of the really bad bridleways over winter anyway. The drag was brought to a head on the SPAM winter challenge .. years since I'd done it and new I may have made a mistake whe I realised I was the only one on the start line on 26" wheels, mud tyres and 150mm forks! Had to push due to queues on the bits they would work on, and had to haul the knobbles around the fast bits..

They've discontinued the S-Works, only Controls available now. At least in 29" guise.

I'm runing a control on the rear of my 29" SC Superlight, tubeless, best winter tyre I've ever had.

So i'm currently trying to seal up approx 1,352,000 holes in these tyres to go tubeless....... probably shouldn't have bothered.

Based on the info on this thread I bought a purgatory in the end coz I do do a fair bit of road riding to get to the muddy bits and tbh I've found it excellent. I managed to get it on the rim without any trouble and it inflated tubeless like a dream, popped on the bead great and I took it for a spin round a wet Cannock on Sunday and it was excellent, very good grip. I'm a specialized tyre convert.

Fair enough. looks like my issue is with the thinner sidewall - just loads of tiny leaks all over the place
