Speccing an angled headset

Little help, please - I want to fit an angled headset to my aging but very capable Cube Stereo. Its waaaaay out of any warranty and I want to get the geo a little more up to date (as I can't afford a new bike for a while).

So, what do I need to think about?

Obviously the tapered steerer thing, but do I need to know/measure the insertion depth? Anything else to ensure I don't buy the wrong thing...?

Thanks

You need to know what type of headset it currently has - eg ZS44/56. And the head tube length.

If its a carbon one you cant do it. There are no pressed in cups to replace. Is it aluminium?

Don’t 9Point8 make the Slack-R with can be used with an IS headtube?

Previously I’ve just looked up what type of headset I have in my bike, measured the head tube length and then emailed Works to double check I’ve picked the right one.

Haven’t tried the Superstar one, but once heard good things.

Have you also considered if offset bushings for the rear shock would help ‘update’ your geo?

Ah, it is a carbon frame, so it sounds like options are limited to none. Will have a look at 9point8, thanks zerocool...

@fadda I think NSMB has had a review of it in the past. If not the Andrew Major on there has had lots of nice things to say about them (and Anglesets in general)

Are you also increasing the travel/AtoC of your fork as well?

@zerocool - good pointer, thank you. I found the review; just had a quick read and will go back to that in the morning, when I'm a bit more awake!

i fitted a slackr to my old chameleon. it's not the easiest thing to do by yourself. another pair of hands would definitely be useful. i used plenty of fibre paste and loctite in the right places but it still creaked. having said that i'd do it again.
