Hi All
I' after a bit of advice , I've been looking at  both the Specalized Diverge Comp or Trek Checkpoint SL5 gravel bikes
Does any one have any experience of either bike, I know the checkpoint has only just been released  so that might be limiting. Just interested to hear what owners think. Or if any one has ridden both.
I'm Intending to use  the bike to replace a road  cross bike and mtb bike.
Cheers
I love my Diverge but I'm not sure I'd replace a mountain bike with it. I have taken it around some of Coed y Brenin and to Morzine and it's great but you're soon up against tyre size limitation. Something you can stick 45 or 50mm tyres on if necessary might be better?
Hi flap Jack
Thanks for the reply can I ask which model year you have, and if you've ried it with 650b wheels?
2015 carbon. I've not tried 650s. It's currently got 700x36 Clement Xplor MSO, which are about as wide as I feel comfortable with from a frame clearance POV, which I rode some of the tamer trials in Morzine on. Offroad down from the Mines D'Or, for example.  The handling is lovely, I'd really like to try with 650s.
Is that the carbon comp or the Aluminium comp?
Looking at the price of the Trek I'm guessing the carbon diverge. I have the ally version, really like it. Wheels are shit though. The 2018 version takes up to 42mm tyres I believe. Mine will do road rides with slicks, touring ( has pannier mounts although I havent used them) and off road, have some 38mm G One Allrounds. The future shock just works. I have some Prime Race wheels I use on the road and use the heavier originals off road. Both wheels are tubeless ready but I havent bothered. Its a great all rounder but kind of master of nothing but that is what makes it fun I suppose.
"Wheels are shit though."
So are mine. Rear needs re-truing after every ride. Something with more than 24 spokes would be sensible.
Mine stay straight but needed near bearings in the rear after 6 months.
Many thanks guys looking at the carbon version of both bikes interesting to see  the comments about the wheels, that could be the decider for me ,as I've had experience of specalized wheels ,and the bearings and seals appear to be poor. Having said that my bontragers on the road bike have been fine apart fron  3 broken spokes.
I also realy like the idea of the future shock just not sure about longer term as I tend to keep my bikes a while
The shock is good both on and offroad. Comes with different springs for different rider weights. Its all internal so should be relatively trouble free I hope. If it get discountinued I'd just buy a couple of spares!!
